I was playing Halo CE on the level Keyes and I noticed that Keyes was a proto-gravemind and looked a lot like it, plus in the cutscene in halo 2 when Master Chief and Gravemind first meet the gravemind looks like it knows the chief.
So to sum up the question... Is the Grave Mind Captain Keyes?
-
"Keyes is an early type gravemind but chief destroyed the ring before it could develop into a large one. In halo 2, the gravemind knows the chief because the chief is a human and the humans are the forerunners. The flood then takes over high charity and a lot of the covie ships and goes to earth and the ark. Chief then detonates the copy of the first halo from CE and destroys all the flood. But did delta halo ever get destroyed? cuz thats where the original gravemind is located" Wait! So your telling us that the forerunners are actually humans?!? How would they get into space, and more, build the 7 halo's in the first place? [Edited on 04.14.2010 5:32 AM PDT]

Remember that there are alot of Graveminds though out time and they share the same intellegence strain because the Flood have never been truly erraticated till the end of the Human/Covenant War. So Keyes was close to the final stage of proto gravemind development but was destroyed. The gravemind knows Master Chief cause he has existed forever, intellegence wise. I'm sure he knew of M.C.'s exploits thoughout the timeline. Remember the Covenent level of Halo 3 you see the status of all 7 halo rings. The delta halo ring was the 5th i believe and it is in perfect condition. Also on to of everything there exsists only one Gravemind. He though has the ability to use slipspace travel and trasport due to his invasion of Installation 05. [Edited on 04.14.2010 5:35 AM PDT]

Its Possible... I Mean
Gravemind: (Gravemind Moment) Do I Take Life Or Give It? Who Is Victom? And Who Is Foe? Cortana: It's Trying To Rebuild It Self On This Ring!
It Could Have Rebuilt Itself On High Charity. [Edited on 04.13.2010 10:56 PM PDT]

The flood are a hive-mind species that have some sort of telepathic connection to the gravemind. So the gravemind would seemed like he knew Master Cheif because he had the memories of captain Keyes

The Gravemind was using captain Keyes to find the location of earth and the Ark But since Keyes had a Harddrive implanted in his brain the gravemind could not find it Same reason why the profit was apart of his tenticles, It takes people from high positions and strips them of their memories

The Gravemind probably seems like he knows the Chief because he is extremely smart. Keep in mind, it did convince Mendicant Bias, the most powerful AI ever created, to turn against the Forerunners with 40 years of conversation.

No. You, you know, destroyed the place back in Halo 1. Well, actually Silva's cleaning squad handled it before McKay made the ship crash and blow up. After that, you blew the ring up.

no, keys was killed when master chief punched into him to get the data chip
