Blocking with the Energy Sword?
Should we be able to block while using the energy sword? It would make sword fights a little more interesting, and maybe it could reflect bullets? Just a thought. What do you guys think?

Sounds like this is a call for a riot shield more than anything. The mechanic would come down to holding the sword infront of you and hoping your enemy is dumb enough to shoot at its tiny hit box. I'm not saying it couldn't be done and it's easy enough to explain how it works. Bullets would be easily melted and probably vaporized. Lead has a low melting point compared to the titanium bulkheads that these swords are claimed to be able to cut through. Assuming the sword uses the same technology to control its plasma as the projected plasma weapons then it could also be explained that the swords means of plasma containment could disrupt the containment field of the pistol or rifle. Viable in game? Probably not. Swords can already parry other swords. I don't see why that wouldn't make it to Reach. But "blocking", probably not.

If the energy sword could stop bullets (which it probably couldn't), that also means you could stop bullets by shooting them with the plasma rifle/pistol. No thanks.

they need to make it so that you cant beat down a spartan with an energy sword. If your one shot and lunge at someone who just beats you down even though you have A LIGHTSABER BLADE OF DEATH, it annoys the hell outta you

Yea maybe for sword fights but how could it block bullets? the sword is just a big chunk of plasma shaped like a sword, the least it would do is melt the bullets and have the molten bullets go through the sword and hit your character.

And maybe we could also have an armour ability that lets us use the force too jk lol. We can block W/ the energy sword... swing at the same time and it wont kill them.

What do you guys think?[/quote] Already been suggested before. Blocking other Sword attacks with the Energy Sword would just slow down gameplay as one side tries to turtle the other. And it whole blocking/reflecting bullets bit from Halo Legends isn't possible. Just holding it in front of you means you leave large portions of your body unguarded and the sword can be shot around. Trying to swat the bullets out of the air would mean you need to be a Jedi. And in either case the bullet is still there. It's turned into molten slag and probably looses some of it's power but it still hits you. Overall I don't see it being a positive addition to gameplay. [Edited on 03.21.2010 12:34 PM PDT]
