It was one of the best halo campaigns in my opinion
For me the top 3 campaigns are
1. Halo 3
2. Halo Combat Evolved
3 Halo ODST
Odst was very moody for a halo game, a completely different feel that I welcomed greatly, and also amazing soundtrack that really stuck out for the rookie's segments
Something about the whole atmosphere and the feel of not being the overpowered chief was just great
The firefight was also really well done, better than it was in reach
Edit: my multiplayer listing is
1. Halo 1 custom edition
2. Halo 3
3. Halo reach (I spent the second most hours on it, right behind custom edition)

2 RepliesBecause it wasnt worth $60. Thats the main reason

3 RepliesI think the biggest reason people disliked it was simple, there was no Chief in it. That could have been a huge deal to some people. Personally, I really enjoyed the game. It might be might favorite game out of the series, and most of that is because of Firefight. I played so much of that, and still could go back and play it again without getting bored.

8 RepliesEdited by Vgnut: 7/12/2016 6:15:16 PMThis is a thread I would have expected to be posted in 2009 to maybe 2011. People are exponentially more praising of ODST today than they were in 2009. What hurt the game was: - At the time it was easily the weakest Halo FPS. ODST wasn't the God tier title that the first three Halo games were. Sorry ODST fans but it simply isn't. Great game. But console generation defining like Halo or Halo 2? No. - It was implied to be an expansion and priced at $39.99. It even had Halo 3 in the title. Then there was a pivot and the title went up to $59.99. That didn't go well. Optics around the game were handled pretty poorly. - It was the third Halo game within three years on top of yet another Halo confirmed for the following year. ODST was the confirmation that we'd be getting a new Halo close to every year from here on out. - We knew Reach was coming. Reach was implied to be the "true successor" to Halo 3. If Halo 3 was the Xbox One ODST was like the announcement of the Xbox One S and Reach was supposed to be the Scorpio.

The controversy around ODST wasn't the quality of the campaign, but rather the value of the game. It came out initially at full retail price ($60) but the campaign was significantly shorter than previous Halos, even if it was really good. A lot of people felt the multiplayer disk was tacked on to artificially bump up the value of the game, but since many people (me included) had already bought all the map packs, it was like they were putting money in for stuff they already had just to get ODST.

It doesn't m8. That's my favorite campaign.

2 RepliesIt doesn't?

4 RepliesI recently played halo for the first time and I have to say the order I would put them in is Halo 2 Halo 4 Halo 3 ODST Halo 3 Halo 1 Keep in mind I haven't played reach or halo 5 yet
-
4 RepliesYou know what gets more hate? Halo Wars great game, hated by many because "it's not a real Halo." They better not screw up 2 or I will lose my marbles.
-
1 ReplyWasn't the biggest fan of the campaign, but it's my favorite firefight.
-
From the trailers and the music used in them to the dark atmosphere, I loved every part of odst
-
Halo Wars and ODST for life
-
If it was just halo 3 dlc, it wouldn't be a problem. But it was sold as a full game.
-
1 ReplyIt doesn't.

The ODST music dragged me in. I just loved it really. Only thing i didn't like is going from energy shields to the classic health bar. Gotta pick those engagements.

Edited by Moonman: 7/12/2016 1:32:45 AM$60 for a small Expansion. I personally love the game and the immersive atmosphere. Everything was done right in that part.

1 ReplyIt does? ODST is one of my top 3 favourite Halo games.

After being alone for such a long time I started going crazy in ODST -_- And I agree Halo 3 had the best campaign
Jk Halo 5 is the best

Fite me
-
It had some strange pacing and level design sometimes but overall it was an amazing Halo game.

1 ReplyEdited by Auttumnnnn: 7/9/2016 9:34:09 PMBuck's ODST Squad > Noble Team But seriously, ODST is one of the best games in the series. Very well done.
-
$60 DLC Very hit or miss atmosphere, switching between slow, methodical investigating in a city at night to Rambo action sequences The whole "open world" environment got very stale, as the city was essentially copy pasted over and over again with the same layout
-
It doesn't, as far as I know? Everybody I know who's a Halo fan loves ODST.
-
Ive never heard of it getting flak from anyone ever My only beef is reach and halo 4 only became that way because of reach

My complaints about ODST are: The Rookie is silent, but no reason why. Master Chief and Noble Six played that role well, but still talked when required (or for humor). I'd feel better if there was a reason for the silence, like an injury to the vocal cords, or they bring up how he has never talks but are okay with it. I might be over analyzing, but it's also been a few years. No characters died. I have seen plenty of Marines, ODSTs, (and later Spartans) die, so why are they so special. I was told I was getting a story of sacrifice, and all I see is Romeo lose a lung and random NPCs I don't care about dying. The story was only really about a Covenant engineer. Let's retcon the part where engineers don't care about the factions and only like building and repairing stuff. Sure some of them might be abused by asshole brutes, but engineers are very highly valued in the Covenant (except by drones). I've usually hated the whole "not all the enemies are bad", or "we can get along with our enemy" story *glares at ME3* To me it did feel like it was dragging on and forced when they stole the phantom and Banshees. Gameplay and scenery wise I enjoyed it overall.
