3 problems i see, first it was on frontier, second you had a full fireteam vs randoms, and third you sent a message to the losing players. No wonder they responded as they did.

 • So, the unwritten rules are: - 1. Never send a message to someone when you've just played a game on Frontier. 2. Never send a message if you're part of a fireteam playing against randoms. 3. Never send send a message if you win the match. Anyone else think that sounds a bit Barking mad...?

 • How so? If a full fireteam is coordinating their attacks on a map that is designed for snipers against a team of randoms and a message is sent, the people who receive it might think it was a sarcastic jab.

 • Interesting. So the rules above then apply. And that's barking mad. Ultimately, you have a situation where no one will speak to anyone else for fear of causing upset or insult. As someone else said, it's surprisingly antisocial for a social game.

 • I would never be salty from a compliment.

 • Except for the fact not all players see it as a compliment. I think some players see those messages as sarcasm (like you're doing the slow clap emote while sending it).
In World of Tanks I once sent a random teammate who (from my point of view) really supported me gaining the victory for our team by bouncing some hits off his armor that otherwise would have killed me. I ended up having an awesome match with more damage dealt than the next 3 top players on my team combined, I had 8 out of the team's total of 15 kills, I received nearly enough damage to get myself killed aswell, I stood alone against the last 2 enemies alive (was on halve hp when I became last player alive on my team) and I still won the match for our team with like 5% hitpoints left. I sent my teammate; 'Thanks for the help, well played, this victory was on you.' His response; '-blam!- you, man, you're total garbage, you're a pathetic noob.' I sent him back; 'Dude, that's your response to an honest compliment?' His reply was; 'Oh, sorry man, I thought you were just rubbing in that I died in the end.' The dude then sent me a friend request.
• It was certainly not meant as sarcasm.

 • Yeah, but that's the thing if you can't see the facial expressions from the person talking to you (and in case of a text message you can't here the tone in his voice either), it's hard for most to judge if something is sarcasm or not. If someone is salty already and then gets a message from (one of) the person(s) causing him to be salty (or made it worse), then it may be easier for that salty person to react negatively to that message. I'm not saying it's a usual response for most people, but I know from multiple experiences that some people don't take things you say the way you mean them. That story in the spoiler in my previous reply is just an example that's relatively fresh and I remember well. Another problem I once had for example was that someone didn't know english well enough and just assumed I sent him hatemail, he then sent me a negative reply in french, a language I don't speak but can still translate (We then had a short conversation in german) So all I'm saying is that even though it's an unusual response from that person, I can still understand where it's coming from. He may have thought you were rubbing in his loss, even when you were doing the opposite from your point of view.

 • It all depends on context if he has been doing horribly the whole game I could sew how it could have been mistaken as sarcasm.

 • Considering their score between the two of them, the player was not playing badly at all. It was meant as a genuine compliment. I don't contact players I don't know as a rule, just a shame I broke my rule for this to them happen. I leave criticism to other players.

 • I agree with you, his reaction wasn't warranted in this casw
