8GB RAM? That's four more than I've got and I can run Skyrim.

  • Unfortunately memory has very little to do with anything. It's all about your video card.

  • Not really, if you mix a good GPU with a crap CPU, you won't get a decent performance.

  • What's a gpu?

  • True, but not nearly as much as a bad gpu and good cpu

  • I have a 760 mixed with a i7-4790k and my performance tripled compared to before when I had an AMD 8320.

  • So a cpu with 50% better performance tripled your performance in general? Sounds like you might have been using a mobo that couldn't support your video card if that's the case. It's pretty common knowledge that gpu is more important than CPU...

  • Nah, its that AMD is shit. CPU is really important and you can do fine with a mid range card and a High end CPU.

  • You can indeed do fine. But if you think cpu is more important than gpu in gaming you should probably do more research.

  • So my personal experience isn't evidence enough for you? Same GPU but a different CPU and my performance tripled. We aren't talking about a CPU that bottlenecks my GPU, we're talking about something that is good.

  • Clearly not. And yeah, I trust people who have done actual tests and benchmarks than your apparent seat of the pants experience. The numbers are out there... you're totally welcome to believe whatever you want though. Who cares if it contradicts the science and facts that say you're wrong. As long as you're happy.

No no, you're totally welcome to believe whatever you want. I'm not dismissing benchmarks but if I'm telling you that my performance almost triple, 200%-300% increase not 50%, with just a CPU swap, its clear that CPU is really important, and in some cases more than a GPU. I also won't dismiss the fact that you can't rely on a high end CPU and a mid range card to handle some intense games but it is clear that the performance gain I got wouldn't have been the same if I swapped the GPU instead. Now in your mind you're probably thinking that I'm saying its better to have a high end CPU and a low end GPU, but no, thats not what this is about and that is certainly not what I'm referring to. You dismissing personal experience and then saying do some research on benchmarks is a contradictory statement because both are tests in their own way. Even more when you talk about facts and ignore ones that are in front of you.
