I bought destiny for PS3: $60
The dark below:$20
House of wolves::$20
Taken King: $40
Estimated money spent on silver:$40
Then I decided to get a ps4 and destiny: taken king edition: $50
That's about $230.
When it comes down to it, I'm feeling a little buyers remorse, and I'll tell you why.
Played the beta for overwatch and was inspired to buy the game.
I spent $50 on origins edition, and so far the game has provided more instant gratification than I can honestly say destiny has, in the two years I've spent playing it.
This isn't a thread bashing destiny, but a logical standpoint on how much content should be priced at, and how much entertainment value should be available to the player for that price.
For starters, overwatch is a truly fun game. The gameplay is balanced, and doesn't feel like an air soft fight with gimicky and broken mechanics. In the short time since release, the game has been updated, and problems are addressed every week.
The devs listen to the player base and take feedback to heart.
I've had so much fun with the variety in overwatch, that the few times I've actually started destiny up I was left feeling bitter, and as if I had wasted that time.
Overwatch gets free updates and dlc, and it's pvp is great. There's so much variety among the different classes (heroes), that it feels like 20 different games in one. Each hero serves a role, and does it well. Team composition matters as much as strategy, and there's a huge focus on teamwork and cooperation.
Now, before people start bashing on me for talking shit about destiny, I'd like to point out that I've spent about 1000 hours playing it. I was devoted, I raided, I did bounties, I collected tears in the crucible, I supported my team as a defender titan, I've done nightfalls, I was there for the loot cave, I've been to the lighthouse with my friends, and I've generally done everything destiny has to offer, and I enjoyed it for the most part.
The real thing bugging me is the principle bungie has set for their content. How can a $50 game with only pvp activities provides more fun, entertainment value, and overall fun in a fraction of the time?
Nothing will ever replace destiny in my heart, or the memories I have with the game, but I feel like the elephant in the room needs to be adressed.
Tldr; this shit is getting too damn expensive for me, and I probably won't be buying the next installment in the series based on principle.
This is not a post to discourage people from buying the next dlc, or destiny in general. It's probably going to be a great expansion, but I don't think I will be able to commit to another bungie purchase.
Sincerely, a day one player.
How much money have you spent on destiny, and do you think it was worth it?

1 ReplyEdited by Tiingy: 6/23/2016 1:15:40 AMIf you want a really crazy perspective of things, I've almost got 60 days play time. 60x24 = 1440 hours I earn $32.50 an hour at my job, but we'll assume I earn about $26 an hour after tax 26x1440 = 37440 That's $37440 I could have earned if I spent that time working as opposed to playing Destiny ... LoL.

Couldn't even tell u man. Including broken controllers that have just completely jammed? (R2 and square).. Including silver, controllers, dlc and base game, I've easily spent 1k.

Edited by Prototype 6 6 7: 6/23/2016 12:06:41 AMMoney is just a material object I'm not too worried about but the memories and friends I've made from playing this game are priceless.

Got over 70 days in this game, that's just from Year 1 Got the game for £40-Season pass for £20, so £60 Got TTK for £40, so £100 If you count upgrading in that then £350 in total Then an extra £30 for everything else, so that's £380 in total. For over 70 days of entertainment. Yeah, I'd say its worth it.

Edited by Devasstator: 6/23/2016 4:10:37 PMWorth it at times, not worth it at others. It's model of a tiny amount of end game content stretched out for months sucks. It gets boring and repetitive after a couple of weeks. Mechanics and friends are the only thing that makes it enjoyable beyond what it should be. TTK was not worth 2/3 of a full prices game. It turned back into that horribly boring grind after about 3 weeks and ROI has less content so it will be even worse. (definitely not worth 40 in Canada).

I have 4 xbox ones ( lots of kids ) lol and a ps4 ..I have bought every dlc for all ..I used to love this game but no so much anymore .I bought the ps4 to get the exclusive guns aka jade rabbit and a few other things and after months of playing (I have to much time recently disabled ) there is still a bunch of guns armor etc that are exclusive that I cannot get ..I know rng sucks but wtf ..what's the point for exclusive if u can't get it bs ...

Aside from the cost of the game, the season pass and TTK, i spent 5$ on silver. I bought the Do it emote so it was all worth it.
I want my money back i'm suing you god damnit
1 Replylol take the total cost and decide it by the number of Hours Played then ask yourself that question..... Logic.....
-
Lol $0. Got everything for free.

You spent 2 years playing this game. You obviously had enjoyment out of it to have stayed as long as you did. In an age where people will buy a game they may not even play for 2 weeks before they are done with it, this speaks for itself. Destiny isn't perfect, but 2 years worth of gameplay definitely counts for a lot.
-
The game is worth every penny I don't just mean pve or pvp but look at the background
-
It isn't the most amazing game I've ever played, but it's easily the game I've spent the most time in, totally worth the money just for the bar savings.

Up until taken king
-
2 RepliesDefinitely not worth the money spent, repetitive and boring

$250?
-
You lost me at PvP only game....................... That there is a total waste of $$$.Anyone that buys it just got ripped off bigtime paying more then $10 for it since PvP is super cheap compared to PvE.

I think it's just the newness of overwatch. Wait 6 months and tell me it's great. It looks too cartoonish for me plus seems like a bad value with only a couple modes. That free dlc better be good!

Edited by LeViaThaN3-: 6/23/2016 1:46:41 AMLimited edition taken king ps4 game included $500 maybe worth it

Xbox 360 version: $30 Expansion pass: $35 Traded in my original copy at GameStop for TTK:$20 Silver:$10 Xbox One console and Xb1 version of game: $350 (but it was a Christmas present though so I won't count it). So $95. Soon to be $125 with Rise of Iron. Still debating on pre-ordering though. When clearing out some of the bullshit nerfs and updates I'm overall satisfied with my purchase.

1 ReplyEdited by WooliestCargo34: 6/23/2016 1:09:11 AMHmm....let's see..... Xbox 360: 2 copies $120, the dark below 2x $40, house of wolves 2x @ $40, the taken king 2x $80 Xbox one: 1 vanilla @ $35, the taken @ $40 and a legendary edition @ $60...... Wow..... $415...... I'm almost ashamed, but the wife and I did have a lot of fun playing, so....sometimes that's the way it works. Lol
