This post is just begging for a TL;DR but it's extremely interesting if you read to the end, there's a lot of lore and points made on Variks if you stick with it.
As a Warlock I'm a thinker, so hear me out. Variks is a literal bender of the Void in ways even we of the Order can't manage. In the Prison he decides we did well so he's just like;
"F*** it, yes? You may have these tiny shells of explosive destruction, no?"
*Wills infinite heavy ammo station into existence for 30 seconds*
Think about it. He can DECIDE THAT THERE SHOULD BE INFINITE MISSSILE FOR 30 SECONDS BECAUSE HE CAN?! How is he that powerful? Not only that, He can do the same with Scorch cannons, and he can outright KILL, ALL THREE of the Guardians of he thinks we aren't up to his own PERSONAL standard. Which is apparently being flawless against entire hordes of monstrosities while balancing Skolas, the Tainted Light, Mines, eleminating a target, and also not dying of our own stupidity somehow from that infinite supply of explosives he gave us a minute ago.
Variks, if you ask me, is a House Judgment envoy of the Old Gods. it would make sense and explain why he's able to A); manipulate godlike entity powers, and B); as of the Taken King, hold the Taken hierarchy likie Sylok the Defiled or Keksis the Betrayed in the Prison of Elders when they are plane-shifting creatures not bound by space or time.
Asriel has done his research. I read ALL of my grimoires. and while i haven't collected all of them, my library is quite extensive.
.... but.. don't quote me, it's just a theory.
