Destiny inspired name for my baby boy

I need your guy's help with naming my son. My wife and I play Destiny pretty much every day and this game has meant a lot to us. We have our first born son due to be born in just one week and we still do not have a name. It would be nice to have a Destiny inspired name but we can't seem to find one we both like. Names we already considered are.. Osiris, but we think it might sound too feminine Cayde, Legend, this might sound to cheesy. Can you guys help us and give us suggestions?

I mean., I personally would go with Taniks, but... how about... Zavala? heh... nope... It would have been way easier if it were a female name, would have gone STRAIGHT to Amanda

Hey, I just wanted to say don't listen to the naysayers. Their arguments basically boil down to "Be normal!" If you fly your freak flag proudly and plan to teach your offspring to do the same, they may well cherish their uniquely weird name. And, speaking from personal experience, someone who embraces the weird is as likely to tire of their normal name as someone more on the straight and narrow might tire of their offbeat name. So, yeah, Osiris is an Egyptian god; not sure why you'd be worried about it sounding feminine. (And seriously, you're willing to break normal naming conventions but you're worried about gender norms? Be braver.) Be warned that the god is who most people will think of with that name. I've seen some suggesting Vance, and if you want a name that somehow honors Trials, but don't want a deity name, then that one does not carry the same cultural weight. If you did want to go with Osiris, though, at the very least look him up on wikipedia and make sure you're comfortable with the god's story and associations as well as the Destiny ones. Bonus! It has some alternate spellings that might ring with you. I like "Ausir." You are right that Legend is cheesy. Or more accurately, precocious. It's a lot for a person to live up to. Cayde is a lovely compromise. Destiny players will immediately recognize it, and it's enough of a "normal' name to fly under the radar to everyone else. Hunter is of course already a common name, but you would still know its origin. Same with Xander. A humble servant in Destiny, but a beautiful name. (And if you love Firefly, possibly you also love Buffy, where Xander was a very good character.) Variks falls into the same category as Cayde: immediately recognizable to those who know, but just another slightly unusual name to those who don't. It would take nicely to alternate spellings, too. For example, Varric was a main character in the Dragon Age series. Though that sounds a bit like your name (as you mentioned below), and I'd like to take a moment to discourage you from naming the kid after yourself. Not only is it kind of pretentious, it can cause actual logistical hiccups (my spouse routinely gets junk mail clearly targeting his father, and thank goodness the drugstore has started asking for birthday first, because I got tired of clarifying which one I was picking up meds for, and always had to double-check them), basically forces at least one person to go by a nickname or middle name at family gatherings where both are present, and more importantly, it can sometimes lead to the child not feeling like the name is fully "theirs." Let me finish with a quick story: my sister and her husband didn't decide on a name for their child until on the way to the hospital. They had it down to three names. Each had a unique, somewhat geeky name that they loved but that they other was just okay with, and then there was one "normal" name they both liked. They ended up going with the normal name because compromise, and my sister initially regretted it for a bit. However, by this point, two years of use has made it the child's name, and it no longer feels weird or regrettable. My point is most names feel weird at first, but use will make them feel comfortable and familiar to you. And that's good, because if you were just going to "know" then child's name, it probably would have happened by now. Good luck, guardian! (And especially to your wife, who clearly has the harder task right now!)
