I'm shooting people In the face and every now and then a bullet or two just does not register a hit.
Edit- As I write this the top 3 posts in the weapons sub forum are to do with hand cannons and ghost/phantom bullets, not all agree there is a problem but a big majority appear to have experienced this also. Surely 220+ replies to this post mean bungie could at least grace us with a reply, an inquest, or at least acknowledge the fact so many people are unhappy with hand cannon performance.

5 RepliesTwo main points on the ghost bullet discussion: conal bloom and pacing of shots. Bloom refers to degradation of accuracy with continued firing. It does exist on all weapons. The main problem with HC bloom is that it goes to near max after the first round and takes longer to reset back to default. This is where the ghost bullet phenomenon comes from. Even if your retical is dead center, you may miss at range due to the bloom caused by rapid firing. Which brings us to pacing of shots. Yes, pacing is important. However, HCs have, in general, three different archetypes in regards to RoF and Impact. The problem is that the bloom does not seem to differenciate between the archetypes, thus the rapid firing HCs suffer more. A fast firing HC, like Thorn or Down and Doubt 00, should be able to be utilized to its full potential, not artificially slowed down in order to compensate for bloom. Having to slow your shots down to the rate of the slower RoF HCs, while getting less damage in comparison, takes away from the experience of using the weapon. This is where Bungie needs to take another look.

2 RepliesEdited by Rasputinisurgod: 6/10/2016 12:29:45 AMThey are not broken. They have an incredibly fast time to kill that few scout rifles have. They deal massive damage per shot so if they had the accuracy of the Hawksaw or the Doctrine, then they would be massively unbalanced. They are a precision weapon (with the exception of the last word because of full auto and hip fire) and they cannot be spammed easily. Next time you complain about how bad hand cannons are then ask yourself: what other type of weapon can do 80+ damage per headshot and can kill with three shots? That narrows it down to the Jade Rabbit and Colovance's Duty.

6 RepliesI'm still not seeing this occur in game.

I have an eyasluna with braced frame and hidden hand. Max stability. Never had this happen to me personally

1 ReplyGet rid of the cone and give them more range and give autos some as well.

Edited by PattyDog84: 6/10/2016 3:10:31 AMHand cannons suck compared to what they used to. Phantom bullets and artificial inaccuracy is real people.

4 RepliesYes, there is a problem with Hand Cannons. The problem has everything to do with the bloom penalty for Hand Cannons. Are there ways to try and minimize the chances of getting phantom bullets, yes. The issue is that no other primary weapon has to go through such great lengths to try and get their shots to go where they are aiming.

The 335 Fatebringer isn't registering any hits.
-
I disagree. Hand cannons are pretty much all I use now in PVP unless I'm doing specific bounties that require another weapon. I did 3 successful trials run while using a finnalas peril or my eysaluna. Never had a problem taking out the doctrine spammers. If you feel like you're getting ghost bullets, take your hand cannon on patrol and get a feel for it. Range has a lot to do with the accuracy, and higher stability will help if you're going to spam it.

Phantom bullets essentially it's RNG
-
33 RepliesPace your shots.

45 RepliesPACE YOUR SHOTS! Stop watching youtube and critique yourself. Or.. Watch youtube and pay attention. People are firing their handcannons fater than their stability will allow for a proper follow up shot. Everyone wants a legendary handcannon to shoot like a last word and barely anybody is perking out their weapons to compliment their fast shooting. Pace your shot. The bullets are not rng. The ONLY time i shoot and a bullet makes no damage is when i miss. Flat out. Even most lag has damage show up hella late but it still shows.

I just had a phantom bullet on a strike boss 3 hits didn't register. I saved that clip and more crucible ones as well.

2 RepliesThe drop rate is now a cliff Shoot a stationary target like a tank One step forward 2 damage One step back 1k

2 RepliesI always ADS and a ridiculous 30% of my shots don't register (and that's without firing full speed). On a weapon with such a slow RoF, that's unacceptable. They're useless outside of PvE right now, and even then I only use them for CoE critical kill bonus points. I've basically been forced to abandon them. They only work in PvE because you tend to fire slowly and kill 1 enemy per headshot. This means your accuracy cone has extra time to reset, shots are more rewarding, and misses are less punishing. Some enemies also have really big heads. In PvP, not so much.

Just a note for you future readers of this topic don't mind the two trolls here in fact save yourself the headache and mute them when you recognize their signs and how they reply to this topic and others replies to this topic. Don't encourage their toxic behavior unless you are confident you can cause them to stop replying and give up their endeavors here on this topic. I won't mention their names for they are very, very, very easy to spot.

16 RepliesThis topic has been solved. There is no problem with hand cannons. 'Ghost rounds' occur in all weapons, however most frequently in hand cannons simply because operators commonly choose to hip-fire with hand cannons instead of aiming down sights, whereas most other weapons require aiming down sights in order to eliminate targets. 'Ghost rounds' are not a glitch. 'Ghost rounds' simply refer to missed shots due to reckless hip-firing.

My handcannon works perfectly
-
No your right,I have over 10 top hand cannons and most have hi range and or stability but ghost bullets are real. I myself can't hip fire I need to ADS cuz I want to hit my targets but hand cannons right now are not reliable cuz of this. Even the top range models like hawkmoon or eysluna heck lord high fixer have this issue. I wish Bungie would just fix the code like said mention last word. It just need to be adjusted like the now douche bag shoulder charge which is taking over pvp.
-
And Guys please dont blow up in many face about the argument im just A Hunter passing by .
-
3 RepliesI think they need to fix the hit detection on hand cannons. They did it for the Last Word, they should do it for all of them
-
6 RepliesThey basically made it so you have to pace your shots which sucks. If you can control your guns recoil (especially a hand cannon) and consistantly get headshot you should be rewarded, not screwed over by bad design decisions.
-
2 RepliesEdited by The 7th fall: 6/9/2016 5:56:02 AMA lot of us would call those "Ghost rounds". After Bungie added the "Bloom effect" and rid of pinpoint accuracy on ALL hand cannons, ghost rounds happen quite a bit surprisingly. Even though the cone spread isn't that bad nor is the bloom effect it really f**ks up accuracy too much.
-
If I don't have a high range on a hand cannon it seems these "phantom bullets" do not register. I use my immago loop with rifled barrel range finder and hidden hand.
-
Range finder with max range and stability on the HC should fix phantom bullets.
