Explanation for the "Didn't think anyone survived Pegasi, sir?"

If you haven't seen the VGA trailer, go watch, and then return. If you don't, you will have no idea what i'm talking about. After watching the VGA trailer for the x-time, I considered another possibility about the "Didn't think anyone surivived Pegasi, sir" comment by Jorge. I came up with two new possible explanations: 1. - Considering that Jorge knows that Cathrine is from the Beta-Company(his knowledge of the Company is obvious, hence the statement itself)the statement is ludicrous, since she would also be a survivor of the operation. He obviously knows that Cat didn't participate; if she had, the statement would be abundant, because then S-B312 wouldn't be the first survivor he encountered. Because he knows about Cat's past, wouldn't he also be briefed about the nature of B312?Considering all of this, it would also be plausible that he knows that B312 didn't participate. So, first explanation is this: Jorge is being ironic about the secrecy surrounding their team, and its members, and it would appear that Carter answers in turn; being ironic about how the true fate of a Spartan is never truly revealed. 2. - Jorge may be kept in the dark about certain aspects of their team and its members, and is trully perplexed with seeing a survivor from Pegasi. Because of this, he may not know that Cat is from Beta company, and B312 is, in fact, the first member of said company he has encountered. Carter, not wanting to reveal the nature of B312, states his answer. My second explenation is, IMHO, the least plausible of the two, considering several holes in the theory. What do you think?

 • It was all just a set up for Carter to say "Spartans never die, they're only missing in action". [Edited on 03.02.2010 4:01 AM PST]

 •
Posted by: Larsirius
Posted by: switch 104 sv Noble 6 probably just survived Pegasi and was snatched by ONI and kept secret. Jorge may have known that and was simply making a "joke" in Spartan terms to which Carter replies with another "joke".
If you've read the this, you would've known that B312 didn't participate.
I have read that. Thanks though.

 • it would make sense that Kurt wasnt the only SII to be pulled to help teach the IIIs...

 • Obviously Jorge knows about the Spartan IIIs and may have been somehow involved in specialism training in advanced squad tactics when Noble Team was founded. It is safe to assume that Spartans are not recognized by which group they were part of (II or III) because the public are in the dark about their origins. Noble 6 probably just survived Pegasi and was snatched by ONI and kept secret. Jorge may have known that and was simply making a "joke" in Spartan terms to which Carter replies with another "joke".
ONI has a habbit of taking Spartans for Spec Ops after faking there deaths, so Jorges comment could be more sarcastic or eluding to the fact that he didnt know ONI was pulling more Spartan IIIs
Couldnt have put it better myself. • there were only like 75 Spartan IIs so Jorge should be quick to tell if an augmented human is a II or a III

 • I find it fascinating that, for one, this group of Spartan-IIIs are out and about, considering the huge secrecy behind the Spartan-IIIs due to their normal suicide missions, unless they are 'marketed' as Spartan-IIs. More interestingly, the fact Jorge knows for one that the others are Spartan-IIIs, and two that he knows about such a specific mission, which I'd have thought would be hidden, even if their nature of being Spartan-IIIs wasn't. I wonder what implications all of this has.
