So the other day I was reading through the cards, looking for corrupt guardians. I found one Titan, two Warlocks, and two Hunters that we know we're corrupted by darkness. There might even be a whole cult full of corrupt guardians, mostly hunters. It got me wondering; why do so many hunters become corrupt? Is it because they spend less time in the city than Titans and Warlocks, therefore less time around the Traveler? Or is it the fact that we can understand the creature of darkness better? Hunters spend so much time in the darkness that maybe they are darker than other guardians.

Too much time in the crucible.

7 RepliesWhat are you talking by about? We have like one notably dark and corrupted Hunter, Dredgen Yor. Almost every other corrupted guardian is a warlock.

1 ReplyDo you think Eris is corrupt or just damaged?

2 RepliesCause theyre always complaining about shit but dont think shadestep and wombo need a nerf

They frequented this forum.

Nah the huntards just swear they're unique snowflakes

It's the salt

Greed and a desire for power.
-
Because we got tired of crytans and wuslocks complaining how we were to op with blade dancer golden gun and now shadestep apparently.
-
Hunters don't understand the darkness better at all, the ones to understand it have always been warlocks. I guess it just makes sense for the rogue class to go rogue

I also don't think that a group of hunters disliking the traveler for resurrecting them is really makes them corrupt It's preposterous to believe every guardian ever is okay with being brought back to life to do some machines bidding.
-
Because bungie hates hunters so they -blam!- them over in every way possible

Titans spemd their time defending the City and fighting the Darkness to defend said City. There is little reason for a curious Titan. Either we fight here or we take the fight to them. So if a Titan is corrupted either it was forced, like Kabr, or he thought he could fight better with that new power, which is unheard of. Warlocks are curious though. They want to know how best to fight the Darkness. What better way than to understand it? So a Warlock could willingly be corrupted in order to gain knowledge and power. Think of Osiris, and Toland even more. Why woulda Hunter become corrupted? The search for more power. For what intent they want more power, well it could go either way. There are Guardians who hate the Traveler, and most of them are Hunters. The Trinary Star is one such group and we only know of them because of a Hunter cloak. So a Hunter could be seduced by the darkness and become corrupt. In short: It is very unlikely for a Titan to become corrupt. Hunters and Warlocks have high potential to become corrupt.

1 ReplyHunters don't exactly follow the rules, if I remember the Destiny lore correctly. Besides, only us Warlocks know order and power.

13 RepliesEdited by TrolleyProblem: 6/5/2016 3:53:58 PMThere was essentially only one corrupted guardian, that being dredgen yor. I would not say the others were corrupted. But enlightened. They realized simply hiding beneath the frail protection of the traveller is not enough for survival, and triumph against our enemies. Rather, we must understand. warlocks Osiris was not corrupt. He began to gain a vast amount of knowledge on the vex (and a little bit on the hive) He then began to question things about the light. And more importantly the traveller (most likely he questioned why every time it shows up; a genocide occurs. IE: God wave on fundament, Whirlwind for eliksni, and collapse for us.). The speaker -his own mentor - then decided to slander his findings (which were all true). And so, he left the city with his cult. Giving insight to all who would listen. Toland was not corrupted, nor was he insane. He knew the reason we were failing was due to our diplomacy. We were (and some still are) inept to the fact that only the most ruthless survive. He attempted to spread this truth. No one listened; passing off his admonishments and findings as decrepit babblings of heresy. He even spoke to darkness to assist. And still no one listened to his warnings. Now yes. At times, he had his own agenda. However he still assisted (and still does) the city time and time again. When he entered the abyss with Omar, sai, vel, and eriana; they all fell. And eris would have surely perished with them. But toland gave her his journals so she might survive. Again he led us to calcafied fragments, and through the dreadnaught. If he was really corrupted, a menace as the city paints him, would he really have done that? Ulan-tan was not corrupted. He saw the beauty in void light. He embraced it and learned it was a conduit to light and dark. Something that enveloped all. He attempted to teach the city of the symmetry of light and dark, and how void was apart of both. And they did not listen, too scared to give an ear to reason. Albios was not corrupted. He knew why the ahamkara were being brought to extinction. Not because of a threat they might pose (as they could have easily wiped us out/still can). But rather; because they had answers to questions no one even thought to inquire. The list goes on and on. hunters Tevis was not corrupted. He knew living by the wild power of the void would sharpen him. But he attempted to control something he didn't fully understand. And so he was consumed. Eris is not corrupted. If she truly turned her back to the city, or the light, she wouldn't have come back to confirm toland's warning of crota and oryx. She wouldn't have given us toland's journals to know we must become ascendant to win. She wouldn't have sent us to kill alak-hul. And she wouldn't have sent us to kill malok. Dredgen was corrupted. He tried to steal darkness. But he was too prideful. Too inept. And so, the darkness stole him. titans Rezyl azzir was not corrupted. Just tired of the constant war that will never end of dark and light. Kabr... well. He knew he was becoming corrupted. And so, he sacrificed himself to become the aegis.
also, hunters don't really go to close to the darkness or become "corrupt" as warlocks. They just have a habit of turning their back to the city. If anything; warlocks are the ones that go closest to the darkness. But again, none have become corrupt
You see, only one guardian ever became corrupted. The others were just in pursuit of knowledge, and strength to survive. But the speaker wishes to keep his weapons blissfully ignorant. And so, the newer guardians are told that they were. To keep the from understanding. Now, why did dredgen become corrupt? He tried to control what he did not understand Why were/are the others labeled as such? To keep the newer guardians from going out to understand.

Because they are mostly LSSS (Lagging Shadstepers with Shotguns)

Titan are just too awesome to become dark. That's coming for a Hunter.
-
10 RepliesWarlocks understand darkness more than any race, hunters laugh at Warlocks because hunters suck, and titans punch the darkness because they can.

Spend too much time staring into the abyss, you'll find it's staring back.
-
Spend enough time in the Darkness and you'll begin to see the truth. "Corrupt" is a relative term, by the way. One often used by those in power to describe someone who goes against their agenda. Buuuuut what the hell do I know?
