I hereby issue a challenge

The challenge is thus: write lore that explains why red bar guardians are like gods in the Crucible (within the confines of what we know about the lore). This is all just a bit of fun, but whomever writes the best I shall grant the Tittle of Community Lore Keeper for a week (because I can't give prizes). I aim to put a challenge out once a week in these forums (not all about lore) just for, well, fun :) Edit: post yours in a comment bellow Edit 2: we've had some really good ones so far, keep at it :) Edit 3: so one of the posts bellow (the Guardian called Muzzy) provided a link to some lore work if you're interested, so I'm sharing it here https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/203236192/0/0 Edit 4: so I'm going to be deciding the winner by the end of today (the plan is to have the title reset at the end of each challenge; my next post shall have further details), so those yet to write do so, and those just here to read bump and like the one you like best :) Edit 5: ANNOUNCING THE WINNER Well, there has been many great pieces of lore written here, and I would like to select more than one, but there can only be one winner. The title of Community Lore Keeper goes to: PlunderBegCurse Congratulations! Your words have woven a reality fit for the world of Destiny, enjoy your reward. Should you wish to maintain the title, I suggest keeping an eye out for the next challenge... But before we get to that we have to have some honourable mentions: Clone148 Gazzy1978 Fithhorseman Minerman326 And a big thank you to everyone who participated in this bit of fun :) I shall have a link to the next challenge shortly (this one will be from Armsday to Armsday, if you see what I mean), but feel free to continue with the Red Bar Lore; you've made some fantastic stuff here :) Edit 6: the next Challenge https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/205637300/0/0 Final Edit (presumably): for the sake of making these challenges easier to find I shall be adding the tag 'rossap' to future posts :) (tried to add them to this one and the current one but it wouldn't let me)

    • They say they were consumed by darkness. Consumed by an evil force. Consumed by a force that gave them the ability to teleport, survive all aggression, and annihilate anyone in their path. They channel an ancient power that's secrets were thought to have been lost many years ago. They have no limits, and are said to have been able to win trials of Osiris just by being there. These guardians are the Red Lords.

    • Ghost fragment: The Void Our research has been informative, but the topic, still mysterious. We have seen a rise in the number of guardian's able to defy all laws of physics. We call this "lag." When a guardian is in a state of lag, they are able to shoot through bulletproof barriers, remain unharmed while being fired upon, and, in extreme cases, flash to locations they previously were or will be. What's that noise? Anyway, we think the state of lag comes from the heart of the void. It is a good thing guardian's have harnessed this power and not the enemy. The enemy with the heart of the void can do... unspeakable things. Another theory is that this ability of lag comes from the darkness itself, mixed with the abilities of the Vex. Wherever it is from, we cannot begin to comprehend it. I do not believe any of these theories. Instead, I have my own. But if I speak of it, that would be uttering the killing word of the hive. And that could end our survival. I shall never discuss this again.

Cayde-6 journal entry 82 Legend speaks of a group of guardians who ventured into the depths of the vex network on Mars, even deeper than the Black Garden. They were known as the Clan of Redbar. These guardians returned to the tower changed. They haven't spoke of what they saw or discovered, but they have always been under the watchful eye of the Vanguard since they returned from that mysterious quest. What do I believe they found? I think they found a way to slip in and out of timelines. I've seen it in the crucible, and so has Shaxx. We've seen guardians absorb a lethal number of bullets only to disappear, reappear, only to walk away unscathed while their foe falls over dead. But Shaxx won't let me report this to Zavala. What is he afraid of? What did the Clan of Redbar learn from the Vex? I think I know a guardian who would be willing to find out for me... Hey, if they can kill a god, they can do this. Right?

Many say the light is white. We know really it's green. THe darkness is red. Many attempt to wield the darkness in the crucible, those that succeed will be marked by a red shape. Those that attempt it but don't get it to work are yellow. Clean is green. Yet the red bar gives power. The red bar is smaller, more mobile than the bulky 3 green bars. They allow the user to slip through space as if they have complete control. This is why many enemies have red bars. They keep coming back. It's also why ours are red when near death. The darkness fills us, allowing us to survive better. In this near death state we take less damage. This act is treason if done on purpose. But newer guardians don't have the strong connection with the light they need. The crucible attracts the darkness. It feeds with it. These younger guardians simply can't connect with the light. Luckily we forgive them. But those few who embrace this act, this warping, are invincible in the forever fight of the crucible. But the architects watch over us. As these guardians sometimes disappear and their ghost fragments call out mercy or anger towards our protectors. - Lord Shaxx

        • There was once a gifted apothecary named Babylonia. She provided the substance necessary to "blink" the Stormcaller blink, the Voidwalker and Bladedancer blink, all came about because of this substance. However while the guardians received all the credit for using this substance, Babylonia received none for her skills in making this product. So she went underground and started making a new substance, more powerful than the original. Certain guardians found out about this new substance and began to abuse it, causing them to blink infinitely, it bewilders enemies causing what appears to be the guardian standing in front of you, however this is just the essence of that guardian, the guardian however is already gone and before you know it, you're dead.

        • Ever since the Vault of Glass, the guardians' first trial, they were bound by the Vex like cause to effect. Vex can travel between space and time, parallel universes and other timelines. Because of the Vault of Glass, their substitute for reality affects all that is around it as well. If you ever go to the Tower, a hub for all guardians, notice how some are visible but you can't touch them. That is because they live in a parallel universe caused by the Vex. It is the Traveler's paracasual abilities that allows such hub of parallel universes to exist. Now, the Crucible. When Lord Shaxx and his Redjacks get a new arena, they implement Vex technology to hold these parallel universes together in these arenas. The problem is, if a certain guardian is not connected to the Vex device, his time stream will begin to separate from everyone else, his parallel universe is slipping away. To everyone else, he is reaching a higher state of existence. As the Vex does, that guardian is bending space and time around him due to the fact that his parallel universe is not connected to the Vex device and has become unstable.

          • Fact 1: When a guardian goes down, their ghost revives them (assuming their ghost is still active & in range) Fact 2: Some guardians to gain a advantage in the crucible have been known to purchase items from the Nines agent Xur. Lately the rumour is that Xur has been selling shells for ghosts. These ghost shells are rumoured to give the guardian strange abilities after a resurrection. - Titans blinking - Hunters tanking super hits - Warlocks fire bolting through walls - Shooting through all types of cover - Taking no damage at all But these are just rumours.

Red bar guardians exist in a dimension outside our own. They try to reach the physical realm to live as normal guardians, but they cannot. Their banishment leads them to a realm of hopelessness, in which no other guardians wants to be. The barrier between the physical world and pugatory is nearly unbreakable, and so they are eternally trapped in a world of damnation. Some may get lucky and cause rifts between the two, which only they can see. You may catch a glimpse of one these hollow spirits, but in only a second, they are gone once again. Pulled in by their eternal bonds. Back in hell. Back in darkness.

            • When Oryx the taken king entered into the sol system with one goal in mind. The destruction of the guardians for the death of his son. Oryx encounter with the light and his attempt at taking guardians was not so easy as the cabal, fallen and vex. These "red bar" guardians are in fact oryx's attempt at taking guardian. The taken process of stopping the free will of the victim wasn't strong enough to overcome the light leaving these guardians with the powers of the deep and the light. Oryx was clever with this tactic for the "red bar" guardians have thinned the numbers of oryxs enemies faster than he ever could.

            • There is a way to transcend the bounds of the physical plane. They call it the "Red Bar." This technique is an old one from warriors past, and was first recorded to be used in the old days of Counter Strike and source-ry. The ability to break physics, and perceive almost a parallel world to the one you affect is a powerful ability indeed. It can happen accidentally. All it takes is for a wormhole to appear near the persons ties to the physical plane, then the player becomes more loosely bound to the laws and rules applied to them. Of course a wormhole can be induced upon the ties, but this is a heretical and taboo act to the concords of Courtesy and decency.

              • Rumor has it of a corrupt group of guardians known as the Phantom Scourge. These guys plagued the crucible for years to come. Many guardians died to these sick monstrosities due to their so called phantom abilities. We see them killing guardians without being in sight of anyone shooting bullets that make a sound but is never seen. This makes the guardians look like they're being killed from the inside out like a hear attack or seizure. Guardian you must fight hard against these dogs that have tainted the crucible with their rank smell. Their ruining my kd and I'm not taken this lightly. ~Lord Shaxx, the Tyrone of destiny.

              • Recent triumphs over Vex forces have caused them to rethink their strategy in going about overcoming the Traveler. Instead of throwing waves upon waves of enemies towards Guardians, the Vex have devised a more indirect way of defeating our light. One who is overconfident in their craft makes mistakes, so how do you give your enemy confidence without wounding yourself in the process, you might ask? By tampering with their sparring. The Vex have placed their influence over the arenas where Guardians go to temper their skills before taking them to the wilds. They bestow the power of time alteration to a select few, enhancing their performance so that they see themselves skilled more than that of which they possess, so that they mentor younger guardians out of pride with their faulty knowledge of combat and rush into the fray of battle with our enemies without the faintest chance of victory. Do remember, a Cocky Guardian, is a dead one

              • Redjack fireteams(hence the red bars) deployed by Shaxx to shake up the Crucible. You may train in the crucible, but the redjacks created the maps. Crucible is their home turf. They know all the nooks and crannies, and have the maps memorized like the back of their hand. If you manage to kill one, pat yourself on the back. Shaxx may start to think you're ready...
