My question is: if the Scorpio is a real thing, will game devs have to make different games for it as compared to xb1?

Edited by Vgnut: 5/28/2016 11:11:04 PMThis is the big worry. Microsoft and/or Sony could easily bungle this. I guarantee, because we just saw this on the 3DS/New 3DS, that we will end up in a situation where a game ends up technically working for the old PS4 and XB1 but is a technical mess. What happens when let's say TES VI (and this is probably the series people worry about) which is already a series infamous for its bugs ends up being a nightmare to run on the older consoles?

Edited by Psychic Donuts: 5/28/2016 11:19:24 PMSony has a thing in place where if you develop for Playstation you have to develop for both the PS4 and the Neo. Microsoft has yet to confirm the Scorpio but I'm sure they have something like this in planned if it does exist.

You must support it yes. But Sony can't force devs to make that version work properly. I agree with this guy, and fear this exact thing. Once devs target the new hardware, people with the old ps4 will get screwed.

I'm assuming both companied have plans for this as it is a possibility.

My guess is that if they mean for it to replace the Xbone then they will do the same thing Sony is doing where you make a game for the Xbox One and Scorpio. The Xbox UI is Windows 10 so if the indie or triple A title is on PC (which it probably is) then it shouldn't be hard for them to just scale up the graphics and put in on the Scorpio. They already have the ability to scale the graphics if they are on PC and a console so another notch up is no issue.
