Dear bungie.
I've read this week's bungie update and noticed this part about you guys thinking about banning players that willingly or unwillingly have bad connections.
First, I was like... Nice. Good stuff bungie guys. These guys are destroying the crucible and the whole red bar, laggy and glitchy game stuff has to go.
But after a few moments I thought.... Wow.
Why so these people have red bars.
I mean I have red bars and maybe I'm causing occasional problems for other people.
But, I'm on a 500mbits connection (wired).
What I'm saying here is.... It's you bungie. It's your failed system, matchmaking and p2p connection based pvp system..
The problems are on your end.
So you guys are actually going to ban players that are not the problem. They can't change anything about it.
You can!

5 RepliesWhether it does anything or not, I report every red bar I see. 9/10 the red bars are on top of the leader boards at the end if the match. I only red barred one time in my destiny time and guess where I ended up? At the top of the leader board by like a 1500 points in control and Im terrible at crucible. I think i have a .8 or so kd so what does that tell you?

1 ReplyOk they are not Banning people. What it is going to do is if you have a constantly bad connection in the crucible then Destiny is going to put restrictions on the account.
-
5 RepliesIf you don't want to ban them then stick them in there own damn lobby's. The 90% should not be punished for the action or lack of action of the 10%.

I agree that this idea sucks because Bungie servers suck, but also I have to take into consideration that people shouldn't be indiscriminately banned from enjoying games they paid for due to the enforcement of check box agreements entered into post-purchase that state, in short, things like
By agreeing to these terms, you are unconditionally consenting to spontaneous acts of sodomy against your person, either violently or otherwise, for reasons or a lack thereof to be decided and either divulged or not at the discretion of [Whomever, Inc.®] as the party deems either necessary or enjoyable. These terms are subject to change at any time not only, again, as deemed necessary or enjoyable but also as our lust for sodomy grows evermore exuberant with your futile resistance.
On a more constructive note, I've stated on here before that I support connection based matchmaking as a fair resolution.

It's not their fault they work in fields while you sit in a nice house while touching yourself every night.

All this and a box set of Seinfeld.

1 ReplyIt always has been on their end. Despite my rather crappy DSL internet, it has usually been pretty solid for gaming as a rule for whatever reason. When I first started Destiny, I functioned fine in the game, but as time went on I ended up lagging not only in the crucible, but also during raids and getting removed from matches due to connection errors. After I left Destiny for other games, like Battlefront and now Dark Souls 3, I hardly ever get disconnected and the majority of the time, there is no lag whatsoever. Tells me it is all on Bungie's end.

Bump, there should be a limit on allowing poor connections to join the PVP game sorry. I travel sometimes and get stuck in crap hotel connections and want to play but if I'm a red bar, I willfully will not play so I don't screw other players over. It's called curtesy. Some red bars should try it, since Bungie won't.

"I don't know how the internet works"

You must first understand the different types of servers and connections. Also have a understanding of bandwidth, ping and all the other technical stuff that effects Internet connection. You must have knowledge of these things to state a valid opinion.

This is what I thought too when I saw it on the update. There is literally nothing I can do to improve the Internet connection I have unless Bungie is prepared to pay for an ISP swap onto a high end package. They aren't going to do that. Prior to the melee and SBMM updates I had no issues with hit detection and bullets finding a target. Now it's very hit and miss. I've just played a rift game and couldn't hit a barn door even when I was stood next to the guy. My connection to game was red. Either side of this on story missions I had perfect green and everything registered. The way connections have been managed by bungie causes the issues. I'm in the UK and being paired with Northern US or Australia will cause problems. That's out of my hands, although there never used to be this amount of problems. You just know it'll get ignored.

Edited by viNtaj31: 5/25/2016 4:03:28 PMAn idea; if you red bar for longer than 2 min in total per match (debatable) you are automatically booted from the crucible/heroic strikes/L41 PoE or anything else that has automated matchmaking, preventing these players from lagging to victory and obtaining loot undeserved. Not sure if that is possible but at least it would give the opportunity for people to clean up their act. But smarter matchmaking would be beneficial as well. Not banning but booting.

1 ReplyEdited by haphazardlynamed: 5/25/2016 11:32:26 AMI'd assume, that they mean to ban bad connections as measured on a grading curve, not an absolute scale ie, everyone is redbar because of the host has a bad connection, doesn't imply everyone gets banned so I'm not worried also, confirmation bias, for every post on forums from someone banned, there's probably 1000 users not banned who didn't bother posting about how they aren't banned a vocal minority exaggerating a situation that really isn't going to be an issue
-
I dont think they are gonna ban people for that. Its simply impossible to search for each players cause of bad connection. Besides, they allready know what is causing it. If they do decide to actually ban people for that, im pretty curious how that would hold up in court. Shure, there are many players who actually lag intentionally, but the good harted players should in no way be punished for this matter.
-
Yeah but that would cost them money. This just costs them PR...

Edited by GooglyEyedFrog: 5/25/2016 8:38:49 AMWhether you red bar, assuming no cheating, is entirely dependant on the internet connection of the host in a match and will happen even if you have the worlds best Internt. SBMM does not help because of the potential distance between the host and you which will affect ping. I am no expert but this is basic stuff. If Destiny had dedicated servers then it would make sense to restrict bad connections but otherwise what are they going to do, ban everyone ? Who would be left playing because even those people here who call for a ban, red bar at times.
-
Bungie isn't banning any bad connections....
-
5 RepliesNo if you are repeatedly reported they will investigate and if it's true u get a ban
-
Totally agree with you I have never had a problem with lag until the update and I have a super high speed connection but the sbmm doesn't care that it's connecting you to someone from the other side of the world only that you have a similar skill level it's dumb and needs to be reworked because the way it is now sucks

Edited by catrodsan: 5/24/2016 11:25:33 PMI think there should be a threshold. If you don't meet that connection threshold, you can't play pvp. I don't know if that's even a possibility since connections can drop for a split second so maybe if your connection can't sustain the required connection for am x amount of time. That way no one is banned for an unspecified amount of time.

1 ReplyEdited by HYBRYX: 5/24/2016 9:39:19 PMIf u have 500 mb down and 200 mb up and u live in north-america (canada, usa, mexico) then u will not have lag, but if u have 5mb down and 2mb upload maybe some times u will have lag (only for north-america). But if all in u home are running netflix, facetime, twitter, youtube, updating windows and ur smart phone and ur speed is low (5mb/2mb) then u will have big lag (red bar all time). Or if u live in brazil or europe or something then?.. Bye bye for some time (restricted game). Is only ur problem if u know about all this and u play trial or someting

2 RepliesIts more to do with people who outright abuse the red bar lag to their advantage, if you lag through whole matches and dont die when you clearly shouldve, you should be punished for knowing its wrong and doing it anyways.
-
1 ReplyWell stated. I have fast wired internet but I see green , yellow and red all the time throughout matches due to horrible matchmaking. They need to connect only with local players to help cutdown on this fluctuating lag. Banning someone in red for doing nothing wrong is ridiculous. Only the lag switchers should be permanently banned.
