Assuming the leaked DLC is true...
I think it's likely that our Guardian will somehow time travel back to the Twilight Gap era and witness the rise of the Iron Lords for ourselves.
This allows Bungie to incorporate a Fallen raid back when they would still be a credible threat to the City. It also allows us to finally get a glimpse of some of the action that, thus far, has only been in the lore.
Something to keep in mind: under currently established time travel "rules" in Destiny, outside of the VoG, it doesn't appear to be possible to change the past. The way it happened is the way it always happened. Which would mean, our guardian would be the real reason why the City survived Twilight Gap (mindblown.gif).
Feel free to shred me apart, now.
Edit: in Vex 4, Sundaresh wonders whether or not you could take things through time that you needed? And what was created around Twilight Gap? Year 3 Gjallarhorn confirmed!! Also, there's a rare Hunter cloak called "The Ishtar Dilemma," which has flavor text along the line of, "Never did answer Sundaresh's question, did we?" This was her question. I think we're gonna learn the answer.
Edit 2: Oh look, some support for the time travel theory. For whatever it's worth, I wrote this topic 05/20/16.
