Aegis of the Reef. Very competitive weapon
At work on a break, haven't been able to play since Tuesday. The Aegis of the Reef has been on my mind.
The little I played with it, Flat out amazed and will be using it for trials. It is the same archetype as two other popular pulse rifles, the PDX-45 and hawksaw.
Off the bat, compared to the other 2, it has 2 less bursts, it holds 21, the others hold 27 in the magazine. It does not bother me at all. I am a habitual reloader. Good for one, possibly two kills. I think TLW. Same type of deal. Get a kill, reload.
The roll I got is ideal for me. I have perfect balance, QuickDraw, rangefinder. The Aegis has the highest range of the 3 and it shows. I'm hitting for 25 (75 per burst) at some pretty long ranges for a pulse. Like on widows court. Think from the back heavy spawn area to the top crows nest. Hitting with no damage dropoff. Also, one of the best parts of the weapon, is how it can be rolled.
Perk 1 ( 2 nodes) you can choose the top perk or bottom perk.
Top node: perfect balance, hammer forged, send it, smallbore
Bottom node: reinforced barrel, hand laid stock, injection mold, oiled frame
Perk 2: has to be used. No choice.
Snapshot, lightweight, QuickDraw, full auto, high caliber rounds.
Perk 3 ( 2 nodes, out of these 12 you can only choose 1 )
Node 1: hidden hand, rangefinder, counter balance, glass half full (good for its low mag) head seeker. Third eye
Node 2: spray and play (good for its low mag) unflinching., feeding frenzy, outlaw, secret round, life support
THAT is the best part of this weapon. Notice, no surrounded. No exhumed. No partial refund. The bad perks are not there. The perks that it is rolling will get you a viable pulse rifle. And if one node fails, say you get hidden hand. You didn't want hidden hand (great perk btw) then node 2 can still roll you outlaw, feeding frenzy etc.
You are almost guaranteed a useable weapon. Counterbalance isn't as necessary either. No doubt counterbalance helps it, it's ideal for pulse rifles. The Aegis has the highest recoil direction stat of the 3, and has little, if any side to side recoil from what I remember. Mine has perfect balance and the shots shoot straight up a little. I don't see the side to side.
Can't wait to use it more. I was doing very well with it and was confident VS any weapon I went up against. One of the best weapons I have used in a long time.
Who has this, what perks, and what do you think?

I like mine, hammer forged, Quickdraw, glass half full. And yeah 24 rounds although it shows 21 on the app.

Does anyone else have 24 rounds in the mag when you actually use the gun? I know the app and inspecting the weapon in game says 21 but when I actually use the gun it has 24.

It's a good weapon but not a great. The smaller clip makes it hard to use against multiple opponents. I prefer my pdx or hawksaw. Guess it works better in 3v3 than 6v6.

I have Hammer Forged Snapshot Counter balance (the vertical recoil one I confuse it with perfect balance) It feels amazing tho I can't pick a difference between it and the vendor Hawksaw

Aegis is good don't get me wrong, but I just got a god roll final duty (on my warlock) and loving it. I find myself still switching between Grasp and Final Duty (rather than Aegis) depending on the map.

I generally hate Pulse Rifles, most likely due to a general lack of success with them, but I got an AotR earlier this week that rips shit up. It's been my "go-to" Legendary ever since. That is until I get used to this new LHF with Rangefinder, Hammer Forged, and Hidden Hand.

1 ReplyI've been saying this is the "Sleeper" (pun intended) weapon of the update since week one. It's not super easy to get, and your chances at getting it are low enough that it's not going to be super prevalent. Also even harder to get a good roll with good scopes. It only comes from HoJ packages, so that's a grind to get. Had two so far. First was a turd but I saw its potential. Got a great one for my second: RED DOT- OES Perfect Balance Quick Draw Optional: headseeker or outlaw ( outlaw is better for this one due to high stability) It's probably my favorite gun. I got a god roll Grasp about a day or two before this Aegis, and this gun is better than Grasp with similar rolls.

It's the only pulse that can roll counterbalance anf full auto, so that alone makes it pretty good

Got one with high caliber rounds and outlaw. The HCR makes others flinch a lot even though its a low impact. Its a solid weapon.

Lol today I picked up a few rare engrams, spammed them without checking. Didn't notice till later that one of them had dropped a Hawksaw with Counterbalance, Hammer Forged and Hand Laid Stock. Move over Aegis of the Reef and Grasp of Malok.

I have to get better with it in crucible, but I love it on the PVE side. Mine has perfect balance, head seeker , and quick draw.

The one on my warlock is damn near identical to the grasp on my hunter. I love them both dearly.

It is a 24 round mag. The app says 21 and inspecting in game says 21 but when I'm actually using it its 24... Weird. Not a huge difference but is it like this for everyone?
