Will the story of Reach deviate from the lore created by the Halo novels authored by Eric Nylund. If the story of Reach is supposed to be the Spartan II's defending the generators powering the orbital MAC guns then who is this "Lone Wolf" character? Will the story have mild subtleties or deviate in large from the novels?
Posted by: Dexomega I will forever hold Eric's lore as the true Halo lore. They were that good. /thread
yep...i think that while bungie did create halo and it's stories, eric Nylund did such an unbelievably good job at enriching the franchise that I really wnated to see tfor as a game
Posted by: Hylebos So if I write a fictional book about World War II, does that mean that nobody else can write their own fictional books from a different point of view of World War II? Why does the game have to follow the plot or characters of the book? The game is called "Halo: Reach" not "Halo: Fall of Reach".
Truth.

I honestly hope Bungie doesn't base their game on a book that's already based on their games. They can make their own story, and for all we know, Reach may not be destroyed in the end.
Posted by: Wazooty The book and the game are talking about two entirely different groups of spartans. Both happen.
This is the best explanation I've seen yet.

I'm sorry to have caused you so much distress. I wont ever ask for anything again ever. It's just I don't have much time to read through all of it considering the short amount of time I get access to the internet while being deployed in Afghanistan. I'll try to be more careful.
Posted by: ArchedNature
Posted by: Davorak Could someone link me to where it says that they are Spartan III's. I don't get that from the trailer or vidoc.
Hmmm, lets see, practically every press release and THE FRICKING HALO REACH PAGE RIGHT HERE ON BUNGIE.NET SAYS SO, I hate idiots like you.
The only lore I will consider canon, ever, is the games by Bungie. So I don't care.
-
this is a different story. the events of the book still took place, but they were not the only things to happen on reach. the game follows reaches downfall from a different perspective. oh, and they said they are spartan 3's in the magazines, some interviews, game informers web coverage, and i think the character profiles
Posted by: Bloodthirst1011 I would be honestly pissed off if they made a game on Reach and had very little or no mention to Blue Team and the Spartan IIs. Its their birthplace for christ sakes. The fact that Spartan IIIs are the main characters on a Reach central game pissed me off enough, but nothing to do with the SIIs would piss me off 5x as much. Bungie, at least MENTION Nylunds work. Even you guys stated it was Canon when it was made.
\ If we are no where near the areas where the things in the book happened, there is no reason to say anything.
-
Yeah its like saying the German stories of WWII are the same as a mericans stories of WWII they have the same ending but very diffrent
-
Everyone in the books are still running around ing thier own thing but now the perspective has shifted. So this means Eric Nyland's lore is still intact. [Edited on 02.21.2010 5:12 AM PST]

I believe we are fighting on a different part of the planet. We may not even see the major events of the book unfold, besides, you know, the ending. I imagine that Bungie did this so that they weren't restricted to just the content in the book. Anyways, books don't translate to games very well. Imagine having to watch a cutscene every time there was a talk scene in the book? That would get old fast.

this game doesn't technically go against anything at all in the book cannon. u just have to assume that noble team being spartan IIIs were very secret and therefore nobody knew about them so yea.....word!
-
"This is the DEFINITIVE Halo, from the people who brought you Halo..." - Marty and on that note...what about Halo Legends? Would you say the same?
-
Take WWII as an example. A war on a single planet fought on many fronts - each battle with it's own story and perspective. Halo: Fall of Reach centers on specific events while Halo: Reach a different mission.
-
Reach is a big planet. This game takes place during the events of Halo: The Fall of Reach, but does not have any cross over with the book at all. Same battle, different perspective.
-
Posted by: Crucio No, Eric Nylunds work was centered on the Spartan IIs! Halo: Reach is centered on the planet and noble team. Two separate stories, which should not conflict at all.
Yeah, Fred, Kelly, and the rest of the gang are still doing their own thing, and maybe we'll get to see them, but this isn't their spotlight time. Halo: Reach is all about Noble Team and the Battle, not just the story of Fall of Reach and First Strike (Although they are terrific books).
