Coming from exotic engrams or coming from legendaries that upgrade to exotics? Exotic engrams and activity specific items (like the strike stuff or CoE stuff) will always drop at something equal to or greater than your current overall light level. Everything else functions on a different set of criteria.

Yes that's always been like that. It's always a good enough reward to get an exotic out of a legendary engram

The only 300 exotics I get are ones that decrypt from legendary engrams.

4 RepliesHad to be an exotic from an purple engram. They will max at 300. The first one I got threw me a bit too, so it is understandable.

Any exotic you get from a purple engram will be 300. Your light level doesn't matter.
