History Repeats itself. Every DOOM is canon
So after reading a bunch of DOOM's lore, especially the new game's lore, it seems that vassicslly every DOOM game is canon. At least DOOM 1-4.

The link I provided is of a person explaining this theory, and that was before the new game came out. And after reading a lot of lore, it seems true.

Doom 1, 2 & Doom 64 are the same guy, Doom 3 is a new marine, Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil is also a new marine, Doom 4 is definitely a new marine, that's as far as I know. I don't know if Final Doom fits into this, if it does, they'd take place between 1 and 2, with the same person, but, I'm not sure if they're even considered canon, regardless of being officially published.

Interesting read. The fact that he's been kept around and is 'resurrected' reminds me of what happened to Gordon Freeman after the events of Half-Life 1. He gets put into stasis until he is needed again. ..-blam!-.. Would they release Half-Life 3 already?! :(
