First of all I apologize for the title but without it no one will read this, kinda shows the state of these forums. Hang around though I think some of the stuff I point out makes sense.
I was thinking about this last night. At face value snipers are the issue. But when you dig deeper and look at WHY snipers stand out there's definitely other factors at play. I still think snipers need a reasonable amount of idol sway but that's not the major issue.
Drag scoping has been around in any FPS with snipers, most prolifically CoD. Yet snipers never seemed ridiculously easy to use like in Destiny. Not to mention some of those games rewarded a OHK from mid chest and up which is a much bigger target.
This leads me to wonder a couple things. Is the aim assist TOO high in Destiny? Let's be clear first, aim assist on console is a requirement. The FPS genre would be a mess without it. With that said I feel like headshots with ALL primaries is a joke. In fact I don't remember ever playing an FPS that almost required you to land nearly every bullet to the head with an auto rifle to win a gun fight.
So this leads me to my next thought... is it the fact that aim assist it too high or the hit boxes/character models too large? I sometimes feel like it's too easy to visually locate the target and pop it's head off.
Anyway you look at it the gunplay in Destiny is ridiculously easy all the way across the board. It's just magnified much greater with snipers because they OHK. So what changes should be made?
Significant idol sway?
Less aim assist?
Smaller hit boxes?
Much faster TTK for primaries to balance out snipers?
Like I said at face value snipers are the issue but I feel the problem lies deeper than that.

Snipers aren't much of a problem, it's just the mentality of winning every encounter and challenging somone when you shouldn't when you can instead work your way towards them and get in close and null half his arsenal.

Edited by Shigure Rangetsu: 5/17/2016 3:39:59 AMImo it was alot easier sniping in cod, when i played. Mainly due to the fact that u can 1 body

Guess you didnt snipe much or play much COD. The M40A3 from cod4, the intervention from MW2, MSR from MW3, the Ballista from BlopsII. Ring any bells. You could quick scope the crap out of people and one shots were real. The thing about snipers in any FPS is that they have the fastest time to kill in the game with the least exposure. Fast time to kill and the ability to be far away from the fray keeps snipers where there at and where theyll be.

Snipers aren't the problem. Lag/delay is the problem.

I was thinking that snipers could work like they do in halo. Where if you get shot or take damage you automatically aim out of your sights. It balances out, you can still get easy kills but if somebody comes around the corner and lights your ass up like its the Fourth of July then you will have to retreat and set up somewhere else. Or actually use that thing called a primary.

The scrubs should stop whining is what I vote.

Less aim assist, hands down. I roll with a Gozen-C(AA of -3, or less) in regular crucible, and when I switch to any other sniper, I can get headshots with my eyes closed. It's way too easy.

Edited by EMW ZEEK: 5/16/2016 5:53:14 PMSniping in cod is far easier. And in halo you cant really kill with 1 assault rifle clip.

They should just take sniping mechanics back to the golden age of fps I guess. In Quake 2 there was a huge diffence between picking up a rail gun and knowing how to use one.

Balance all AA values to a base number, determined by weapon type.

Aim assist is way to high in this game. If it got toned by a reasonable amount across the board on every weapon then PvP would be much better
