Ghosts are similar to a Hive's Worm.

(Sources) The Worm Gods that the Hive gained eternal life from in my opinion are ancient huge Ahamkara. "my folded jaws and curled wings" Sounds like a Wish Dragon to me. Verse 1:9 — The Bargain
You are Aurash. Heir to the Osmium Throne. You stand on the naked hull of an ancient ship. You stand exposed to the crushing pressure and ferocious heat of the deeper Fundament. It should annihilate you. It is by my will alone that you survive. I am Yul, the Honest Worm. Behold my passage. Behold my vast displacement, my ponderous strength, my great and coiling length, my folded jaws and curled wings. Behold the hiving cities symbiotic with my flesh. I am fecund, Aurash. I am at the beginning and end of lives. Behold Eir, and Xol, and Ur, and Akka. The Virtuous Worms. Look upon us, and know that We are go[o]d. For millions of years We have been [trapped|growing] in the Deep. From across the stars We have called life to Fundament, so that it might contend against extinction. For millennia We have awaited you... our beloved hosts. Against you stand the cruel Leviathan and all the forces of the Sky. They would crush you down into the dark. They have arranged their moons to drown you, in fear of your potential. We want to help you, Princes. We offer to each of you a bargain... a symbiosis. Take into your bodies our children, our newborn larvae. From them you shall obtain eternal life. From them you shall gain power over your own fragile flesh: the power to make of it as you will. And should you find an imperfection in the world, an injustice or an inconvenience — you will have the power to repair it. Let no mere law bind you. We ask one thing in exchange, oh Princes. You must obey your nature forever. In your immortality, Aurash, you may never cease to explore and inquire, for the sake of your children. In your immortality, Xi Ro, you may never cease to test your strength. In your immortality, Sathona, you may never abandon cunning. If you do, your worm will consume you. And as your power grows, oh Princes, so will your worm’s appetite. But we offer eternity, Aurash. We offer you a chance at the universe. Would you deny your people infinity? Reach up to me. Let my flesh be your sacrament.
I realized something today. The Ahmakara made a bargain with the Hive. Live forever. Always grow strong, always be cunning and always seek perfection. The Worm within a Hive allow it to live forever as long as it kills and pass that offering up through the chain of tribute. The Ahmakara have powers of paracasuality, to control reality and destiny of themselves and others. Specifically they draw from the Darkness, which holds power over death. The Worms hold Death at bay. For the cost of destruction. So I ask this. After Rasputin saw the Traveller getting ready to escape, it shot it down (big tear on the underside, attacks came from Earth, not space) this caused it to create the Ghosts to follow a similar principle. Seek the courageous, the cunning and the curious. Give them life, keep giving them life as long as you have Light. What rules are we governed by? Are we slaved soldiers? Osiris, Tolland, Dresden Yor prove this wrong. So what do you think. Worms stop Death. Ghosts give Life. Which is greater?

  • Thank you so much to everyone that posted. I won't be bumping this again as it seems to be a spent idea now. I'm happy I got a decent amount of replies ontop of all the conversations that took place. Keep on thinking Guardians!

  • We are nothing but pawns in a cosmic dance between the The Deep and The Sky. And their dance is one of eternity. The Traveler and The Darkness (ugh...) are simply representatives of the opposing sides of the 'living' universe clashing in the name of balance, which is why their overall tactics may seem the same. Peace vs War, Light vs Dark, Giving vs Taking, Coke vs Pepsi, etc. But, when species serving them are done, they'll simply find another and continue their endless 'battle'. Neither of them truly care about those who serve/worship them despite what they may believe. But that's what makes them Gods, after all.

    • -Ghosts arent made stronger through slaughter -Ghosts are powered by light and would only be destroyed or simply die after too much exposure to darkness are defibrillators like ghosts because they can bring someone clinically dead back to life? are steroids like ghosts/worms because they can make you stronger Ability means nothing, its purpose that makes the true difference Worms call for violence and slaughter in a literal dog eat dog world and grant power to those who already enjoy these rules Ghosts call for peace and order and only grant power to those who would fight for both This is literally like comparing Martin Luther King to Hitler, only the hive are worse as they dont destroy what they dont believe in, they destroy anything they perceive as weak, mercilessly, including their own, seeing no flaw in the sword logic, hive will never feel remorse for anything they destroy for any reason ever

        • They should have a DLC that's about other alien races who have fled the darkness and we end up saving them from some situation. They show us to their leaders and we form an alliance. # new forth character race unlocked, then we can have 4 total characters tied to our account.

The wyrm gods are describes as dragon. You can assume that it's spelt wyrm instead of worm. Also, about the Ahamakara. I think there's 2 possibilities with them. 1. The wyrm gods were influenced by them and that's why they say "..oh bearer mine." etc etc. or vice versa. 2. An Ahamakara is a younger, non influenced by the darkness version of the wyrm gods. A manifestation if you will. Because they're also very intelligent.

              • Threads like this are why us gamers are thought to be nerds. As a guy who has surfed his whole life(45) and played most sports, I never imagined myself entering a forum to discuss hive worms. That said, I don't view the ghost and a worm the same at all. The ghost is a magical iphone. The worm is a scary parasite that takes over and/or destroys.

                        • We are not seperate from darkness. The nature of duality is an error of perception. Darkness can not exist without Light and vice-versa. The Darkness chases the Traveler's Light because they are bound to each other by law. Throughout the course of Destiny, we use the Darkness to amplify our Light. We can naturally charge our super power by waiting patiently OR we can charge them faster by killing Darkness, which we then use to kill Darkness faster. Vex, Thorn, Nechrocasm, Bad Juju, Red Death, ToM, Exotic Swords all have elements in them conceived by the Darkness... We wear Ahamkara Armor... we become Acsendant, we work to appease our creator who is inseperable from the Darkness... We are not seperate from the Darkness, at all.

I was thinking though, if the Ahamkara are so powerful how did the guardians eradicate them so easily? I read that guardians were getting distracted by their ability to grant wishes so the higher ups in command ordered them to be terminated to keep the guardians from going awol in search of dragons.

                                    • The darkness and the traveler are from the same alien race that splintered over how they thought the universe should be shaped. They have been fighting this war for a very long time and have drawn countless other races to fight for them. That's why there are similarities in how they operate. The traveler isn't good or evil it's just trying to survive at this point. This is my opinion at least.

                                      • Stretching a bit. The real question is what is the cost of utilizing/expending or being a vessel of the energy/impetus we are told is the Light. We know only half of the equation, the Hive half. We've seen one out of at least three potential endgame/top of the foodchain/final actualizations of the Hive/Worm devil's deal. We've also seen various stages of progress along it in the various bosses, lieutenants, underlings. It's too soon/we have too little information to compare the deep dwelling beings of a mythology with another variant of being we've barely got any characterization of when we have no actual experience or first hand knowledge of their form and function. We know Guardians can be permanently taken out through various metaphysical means, both direct and indirect. Certain game conceits are just game conceits, though the writers may invent some excuses retroactively, and space magic is a pretty easy plot device to handwave with. Fun exercise but a few assumptions that would be better held in reserve until we can get better knowledge of relationships or lack thereof.

Second the Ahmakara are neither born of light or darkness. Third the Ahmakara are basically an alternative to the 9's go between Xur for weapons whether they be locations, information, or other aspects of advantage over the Darkness.
