So we have the Titans, the mighty warriors who protect the Wall and keep the Last City safe.
We have the Hunters, the brave scouts of the frontier, the reclaimers of the places lost to Darkness.
We have the Warlocks, the intelligent scholars who keep our knowledge safe.
And then we have the Mechanics. They build stuff. That's pretty much it.

Not every class needs to have some deep meaning to them. They could just want to fight the darkness and that's it.

Edited by Inkvisitorn: 5/7/2016 9:58:54 PMThe problem here is that it makes no sense. Each of the classes have a purpose, there is a reason to why they exist at all. They all have a role to fill and it is shown in the lore and in the game. There is no need for the Mechanic. There has never been a need for what you describe. The foundries and the Shipwright takes care of the vehicles, and the Wall is maintained by the Titans. All you want is a new way of shooting things.

They are the re-builders of lost technologies to further the fight against the darkness. I don't see why this is a problem. This isn't just guns or ships, this is everything based on technology of the golden age itself.
-
Omolon, Suros, Crux/Lomar, all of those and more foundries are working on exactly that. Recovering Golden Age tech. Then there's the three factions wanting Golden Age tech for themselves but in the process recovering it for the City as a whole, and of course, the Warlocks, whose job is to reclaim the lost knowledge of the Golden Age. You really didn't think this through.

First off, the manufacturers rarely ever take anything from the golden age, while there are a few weapons that USE golden age technology or designs not all of them do. Just because those factions want the tech for themselves does not mean they know how to rebuild it, even if they recover it and know nothing about it is useless to them other than junk parts. Warlock may reclaim some knowledge, but most of it, at least lore wise, only explains what these artifacts did, it does not explain how to repair them, how to get them to properly function, or how it could be use today. Mechanics not only know how these items work, but can refit all of them for use in the current age, they can even instill the machines with light giving them a sentience they can control for a brief time. Oh but because a few people make a few weapons and recover/reclaim a few pieces of tech/knowledge this class is suddenly useless. Hey, I dunno, maybe these weapon developers have some mechanics working for them to help them bring this technology into the new age as well. Now if you think you can do better, then do it. Go make a class that "Fits the lore" better or quit whining about how I supposedly didn't take anything into the equation.

I would also like to remind you that Warlocks are the ones already recovering and deciphering Golden Age technology and knowledge. The point of this class, as Inq said, is nowhere to be found.
