My question is what made Microsoft choose to pull the plug on the downloadable content servers so soon? Shutting Xbox Live access down for the original games and giving us two months notice, unfortunate but understandable -- but why then yank DLC access immediately after making the announcement? This is when everybody is gonna want to collect their things for safekeeping before the time comes that they cannot download them again. There's other great stuff than just Halo 2 maps too, like the Hurricane Packs for the original Ninja Gaiden or the extra campaign missions for Splinter Cell. This is stuff that can be played offline but cannot be obtained offline, I think its garbage that they just pulled the plug like that. They need to reverse the decision and give the subscribers some time to make sure they have everything first.

-blam!- MS Stupid Crapping: yes we will, wait maybe not, actually Yes we will, thinking about it we could care less about Halo 2. [Edited on 02.07.2010 10:58 PM PST]

Will call first thing tomorrow morning just to add a +1 to their call list if they are actually keeping track, plus I would like to know if we can actually still get patches at least for games to play online. I mean now they have effectively shut down XBL before that April 15th by removing all server side content.

So I played H2 today and got an update. Anyone know what thats about?
-
I called tech support and they said that Microsoft got significantly more calls about the situation than they had expected and they're actually keeping count of everyone that calls and deciding what to do based on that. So I'm sure the more people calling the better. Do so if you can, I say. Let them know how much we care.

The only way to obtain the maps now is if you but the map pack disk they released a while back.
I have that. =)
I also kept mine :)
Too bad the disc doesn't have Auto Update 2 or Tombstone/Desolation on it.

So this dlc issue is yet to be resolved. Great now I really feel like I will never play Halo 2 on Live again.

Well guys this is looking pretty bad right now. I hope they fixed this. I had all the maps before the cancel the DLC but it said they were corrupted. So I deleted them and try to re download them only to find out they didn't have them anymore. GRRR.
-
Just played some Halo 2 earlier, thank god I still have Tombstone and Desolation.
-
SAME problem, I just got the seperate disc for the map packs. you can download them easily there, and it also comes with a special scene on the campaign
-
oh awesome. thanks
-
Nah man you don't have to worry as long as you have them all.. The problem is that for whatever reason, be it to save hd space or corrupted map packs, people have lost the map packs and want to redownload them. Problem is they shut down the dlc for original xbox games without anyway for people to get the map packs back before April 15th.
-
Posted by: sinus751 wait why do we have to redownload them? i play on an original xbox and i downloaded them all a month ago. will i have to redownload them all of a sudden?
No, it only happens on 360s which have been repaired and the removable hdds swapped. The dlc is for a different console so it won't work.

Yeah, Tombstone was really good. I'll miss it. :( Desolation I could care less about.
-
I have the multiplayer disc, but Tombstone and Desolation are what I'm worried about.
-
Posted by: tiger7 Holy crap, I had just re-downloaded Tombstone & Desolation onto my new xbox. Thank god for my Multiplayer Map Pack Disc.
Lucky bastard.

So there is a way to get the halo 2 dlc onto an xbox 360 so at least we can do LAN over XBC or something. I made a youtube video about it, and I'm working on a blog post that gets really in depth on how to do it... so here's the youtube link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5W7_sz6_nIo sorry about the volume... I was working with a really poor microphone. Hopefully in the future I can fix that. Also, in this video I am assuming that you already own the maps and just can't access them... I really am not trying to push people to do anything illegal. I just want to enjoy Halo 2 as much as possible before online is gone for good, and the more, the merrier!
-
I hope that once Microsoft shuts down the Halo 2 Xbox Live server that Tombstone and Desolation don't get corrupted on my hard drive some day. The other DLC maps I have on the Halo 2 Multiplayer Map Pack disc. I'm just worried about Tombstone and Desolation since they aren't on any kind of disc for future backup.

Its wonderful really, I have paid for and downloaded all the halo 2 dlc, it turns out Microsoft sold me a faulty 360 with RROD, they admit this and replace it, but now it says my halo 2 DLC is corrupt and I cant download it again. wonderful. value for money that.
