Halo 2 on Xbox LIVE to be disabled on April 15, 2010
Today Microsoft announced that as of April 15th they discontinue Xbox LIVE service for original Xbox consoles and games (i.e.Halo 2). This includes Xbox v1 games being played on an Xbox 360.

To everyone who has played, enjoyed and supported Halo 2 for it's 5+ years of dominance on Xbox LIVE, we thank you! It is of course sad for any of us to accept the end of an era but it's been a good ride.
That said, mark your calendars now - on April 14th we're going to hit Halo 2 en masse for one last HOORAH, old school style.

This is unfortunate :( My first online gaming experience was Halo 2. The first time I played was November 9, 2004 at about 1:55 AM. I played one game of Basic Training on Ivory Tower, and ended up in first place. Then I joined my friend for a custom game on Lockout. I'll miss you Halo 2 *salutes* April 14 - One Last Time

Halo 2 is where Live began for me, so this is sad news. :( If not the full game, then perhaps Bungie could release Halo 2's multiplayer component as a standalone Arcade title. Battlefield 1943 shows this type of Arcade game can work and they managed to produce Halo 3's multiplayer component on its own disc with ODST. Come on Bungie, do it!

Its a sad day in the video gaming world. I have had soo many memories on that game. Literally any map you put on, I will instantly have some sort of flashback or memory for it. Im sooooooo in on the 14. Halo 2 was truely one of the best, if not the best video game of all time.

It's a load of crap that people who want to enjoy Halo 2 for a little while longer can't. Microsoft shut down the DLC servers, I'm glad we all got a warning. -blam!- you Microsoft.

*sigh* I really, really, [i]really[/i] wish that they wouldn't do this. Almost every map in this game I absolutly love. Most of the Halo 3 maps suck. Well, no use in crying. Whos up for some Halo 2, eh?

This is terrible. I really wish they didn't have to do this. Now I dislike Microsoft alot! I really liked the online of Halo 2 I hope I get to keep my Halo 2 emblem on Bungie.net, If the "Use Halo 2 emblem" option disappears, I will never change my avatar agian, EVER!

'Cmon guys, get real. Of course they're not going to re-release Halo 2 on the Live Marketplace. That's too much to hope for. Maybe when the Xbox Awesome Snowboarding game for N64 comes out in the way distant future they'll re-release it. Kinda like Croteam did with Serious Sam. And if you've never played the most awesome snowboarding game ever created, it's called 1080.

WTF MICROSOFT!!! halo 2 is the greatest game of all time, hands down. i have so many good memories on that game...i can only hope it will somehow be brought to the 360 after april 15

Well I wish I could be there but no live any more:(( But H2 I salute you and will always remember you.:) Now just as long as Gamespy arcade does not stop supporting H1 games all these years and its still fun as the first day.

Halo 1 and 2 made xbox really what it is today, the reason I got a xbox was for halo 2. Why would you drop something that made you, its not like microsoft need to save money.

Blood Gulch especially will be missed. The game was revolutionary, despite its flaws. Its absence in the community will cause a deep depression in my heart- in my love for gaming. While I do not play it all that often these days- the option to do so always weighs on me and I've come to appreciate that. Yet now that shall be changed? I suppose nothing I can say or do will change what'll happen (aside from assassinating everybody in the world who doesn't agree with me in the next 10 weeks). But I would like it out there that we shall all miss this game. Dearly. PS Now Shishka should add a BUNGLE playlist to it til it goes out and Bungie needs to make Blood Gulch in Halo: Reach because I must be able to play it.
