I hate bullet sponge bosses

The laziest way to make a bossfight more difficult and eat up more time is to make it a bullet sponge. You want to know why I'm not excited at all when they introduce new Strikes? Because the end bosses all conform to the same formula. Shoot them until they die. Yeah, they'll probably throw in some half-assed gimmick that the boss does to make the act of pouring bullets into their weak spot more difficult (such as Malok's blight spamming), but at the end of the day, if all it takes to kill the boss is to make it soak up enough bullets and rockets, it's still a bullet sponge. Hey, Bungie, you wanna know why everyone wanted the Gjallarhorn and Black Hammer back in Year One? Because all the bosses you designed had ridiculously large amounts of health. And in Year Two, we still have this same exact problem. Everyone wants a DPS monster because it takes a DPS monster to kill a bullet sponge. [b]It's your own fault, Bungie, that everyone wants to use the same boss-killing guns because the bosses you design require no tactics other than pumping in as much lead as possible into them.[/b] And now you nerf those weapons because we are using them too much? The only reason why everyone uses them is because they are DPS monsters, and they are the most effective against bullet sponge bosses. You know, the type of boss that make up 90% of all bosses in Destiny? I thought bullet sponges would be done and over with in Year 2. But nope. Still have god damn bullet sponges again. Now, I understand that it is not possible for every single boss in Destiny to have a different mechanic, but would it hurt for each Strike boss to have a unique way of dealing damage to them? I mean, you can still deal damage by shooting them, but why not a unique mechanic for each Strike boss that allows you to deal more damage to them?

      • The newer strikes like echo chamber, blighted chalice, taken winters run and s.a.b.e.r. all have a little bit of a different aspect to them so it's getting better But you couldn't have it too complicated for things that you have to matchmake for because youd get too many teammates that are afk, suck or don't know what their doing and a strike would take too long to be worth it

        I would like to see intricate boss encounters overall. Right now the basic idea is so simple, Shoot the critical spot till it's dead while minding the adds... Pfft C'mon Bungie. Here's an idea: Boss Name: [i]"Something Something Phogots Daddy"[/i] or whatever they come up with. He'd be like a giant armored Ogre with the mother of all cannons for an arm ( Not a boomer but an actual cannon like the one Skolas has just as an arm and bigger) and he'd have a giant spiked mace strapped to his back. Mechanics: He'd shoot you and your allies with the cannon and it would do massive damage, but now you are able to concentrate fire on the cannon and disable it after enough damage (oh did I mention the little glowing enemy you have to shoot to bring down the cannon shield? Yup)... So now that his OP cannon is kaput you'd think ok now we take him down, shoot his head... nope! He's got a thick helmet on. Instead he'd pull out the giant spiked mace on his back and if you get near him he'd slam the ground to his front causing a massive FoH wave and maybe it'd be a one hit KO... Way too OP? Well where did he have that nifty mace before? Slung over his back protecting his weak spot ( A gelatinous, pulsating spot). Why not cover his weak spot? Cause he's a dumb Ogre, his genes were passed on to Phogoth... see where I'm going with this? So now one of your team mates could shoot him from the front with enough distance to aggro him while the other two or one remaining team mates could bust a cap on his jello silver back ass and bring him to his knees... his weak stance where he'd take massive damage. Oh and don't forget the enemy swarming around him too, a boss fight isn't complete with snipers, boomers and cannon fodder. See even a simpleton like this guy can come up with a fun boss encounter while sitting on the can ;)

          • I love bullet love bosses. Gives me a chance to see number fly, handle adds in different ways every add phase and try new things. Did you know that the anti melee stomp bosses have have a 5-8 secound cool down and can't hit you if you're hovering right above then on a warlock with a shotgun? It does hehe. I also love mechanics in fights. The Cabal guy last week in 42 PoE was cool. Actual mechanics. So, either way I win, which is one more time than you as you seem to be salty about bullet sponge bosses instead of trying to figure out how you can have fun with them. *shrugs*

            • That "Half-asse gimmick" prevents a boss from being a plain bullet sponge. In response to year 1 complaints, Bungie decreased Boss's health and added extra mechanics to make boss fights more interesting and less boring. Bosses should have large amounts of health, but a long as the health isn't the only barrier blocking a mission's success, then that boss is a true bullet sponge. Court of Oryx is great example. These bosses have decent amounts of health, but they aren't true bullet sponges because you have to kill all the enemies before being able to damage the boss, or you have to kill the bosses in a certain timeframe, or any variation of a mechanic. A game that doesn't rely on damage by weapons to kill a boss sounds strange... It's the gimmick, the "catch," that makes boss fights interesting and difficult concurrently.

            • Well, it's either that or half the health double the damage. If they're gonna have low health then they need to have high damage to make them feel as strong as a boss. Maybe if they were stronger and had more nuanced mechanics that weren't necessary to win a fight or lose a fight, but when played to could make the fight end quicker, or if not understood could make fights last longer. Bullet sponge bosses are lazy, yes, but an effective formula. If you know what you're doing they're a time waste, which is unfortunate, but maybe if things go forward and last gen was dropped we could see destiny explode into a much nicer game for lone wolf PvE players as well as clan sized PvP troops.

              • We do 2 on ads, one on boss. You'd be surprised how fast a jade rabbit can take down a strike boss.

                • Yes I agree, I would like a boss you could sing to death Your team would surround him and do a barbershop quartet on him till he dies. Or perhaps a boss you could clean to death We get rewarded a bucket of soapy water and each player would stealthy scrub him and then a super would give you a power jet sprayer to (literally ) rinse and repeat Or we could "bungie" defeat a boss where you continuously shoot him with a nerf gun screwing with his weapons till he quits.

                  • I dont mind that it takes more to defeat them but it would be cooler to see different stages of the bosses after taking damage. I see they did that with Maloks head and the one guys helmet in the Dreadnaught prison. Maybe have them retaliate more aggresively but with hurt limbs, staggering around, or throwing curse words at us. Yeah have them curse at us. After shooting them. Curse words.
