I'm probably not the first one who thought about this but here's the idea,
So, they keep the different armor permutations and everything BUT on top of each base armor you could attach other pieces. Such as a different visor piece, ear area piece, mouth area piece, gauntlets etc. These pieced would be similar enough to maintain the same hit boxes. The pieces would have no affect on game play I.E. perks, power ups or powers. This would lead to a much more personalized, unique looking spartan rather than the bland old EVA verses the bland old Mark V. Complimenting this, each piece should have the option to be colored differently,(except in team games). I wouldn't go as far as having a camo-coloring option as this might add to much of an advantage in game play. There would be a few custom armor slots so you wouldn't have to rebuild your favorite armor combo after you changed it. Don't say this is a COD rip off either because the custom armor would have aesthetic effects only. What do you think?
Also, about recon. I think they should make it obtainable by becoming a level 50 OR something of the like. There would be a new, fresh permutation to take recon's old function which would be even more desirable.
These would all basically be things that COD are lacking. Not that it's a big competition of features or anything but halo is a bit behind in the customization department and I think this is the solution. I'm not saying bungie won't have their own solution to this or are even concerned with this so no hateful comments.
Me and nickkcin11 posted this idea around the same time. Here's his input.
I think this is a really good idea. It was on a old thread that died a long time ago and I just want to revive the idea.
If you could add little attachments to your armor, it would allow you to personalize the armor more. Here are some ideas of attachments. I'll update the list as you post more ideas.

Rucksack- http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/9/97/Super%27s_ View.jpg
Camo- http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/c/cb/Concept_Ju n-A266.png
Battle Scratches- Right chest plate
Helmet Laser- Or camera?
Forearm Guards- http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/0/0e/Jorge.png
Weapon Belt- http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/4/4c/Emile-A239 .png
Burn Mark- Can't find any pictures but pretty self explanatory.
Combat Knife- http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/halo/images/2/2a/Grenadier_ %28Noble_Team%29.jpg On Boot or shoulder or hip.
You should only be able to put on seven at a time, one for each section:leg, hip, torso, helmet, arm, neck, and the battle scars can go anywhere. You should have one default one for every section and unlock cooler ones from a related achievement.
I.E. Optic Device for getting 500 sniper kills or 750 headshots career total.
OR
Battle scar for 500 career assists.
It shouldnt be something completely unrelated like rucksack for highjacks.
No add ons would affect the hitbox, think katana
Posted by: Killionairejames Posted by: Killionairejames although i find most of the objects in halo games are designed for a character of a specific height and any other height could ruin the balance. How so? In the reach trailer all the Spartans are different sizes. Also, instead of 5'4-5'6 or w/e i said, it should be at least average height, both for men and women. If not that then an inch or 2 shorter I think the spartans are different sizes for campaign to emphasize their different personalities. I was referring about size in matchmaking. Maybe different height would work out in both campaign and matchmaking but on the other hand the height could give a sleight edge that everyone would catch onto. It's like giving a payer the option of a wider or skinnier spartan. Who do you think has the advantage? Also, it might pose a problem with hit boxes... If I'm not replying correctly it's because I don't usually post anything.
I see what you're saying

Spartans are like 7 feet tall. Also it shouldnt affect hit boxes. P.S. Add my post to the original if you want.

Yeah mark v would be awesome and have some better elite armour the assualt armour still looks the best, arbitur? More customisation is always welcome, more choices the better.
-
i think this really adds to the topic
-
that was just an example of a new way to get recon, aking it less special so they could make a rarer armor.

YES. Especially with the different attachments to already existing components. Most of the Spartans have standard issue Mk. V armor with things they've attached on, rather than completely replacing plating. I definitely want to be able to magazine pouches where I want to, like how the Spartans in Campaign do. Carter's chest rig, Jun's pouches on his back, Emile has some on his thigh, and so on.
-
great idea, taking helmet off and being able to customize your characters head would be awesome too :D Like how dragon age gives you complete control of what your character looks like. Height would be nice too so that all spartans would be different. (5'6-6'5 so that you wouldn't have 1 inch people walking around practically invisible and 50000 ft people walking on you :P) Also, customizable elites.
Posted by: nickkcin11 Wow I just made a topic about this.
I smell jealousy

Yes to everything except achieving a recon-like armor by becoming a 50 (or whatever the highest rank in Halo Reach is.)
-
yes that would hardcore!!!! [Edited on 02.01.2010 7:30 PM PST]

yeah i know i just saw yours after i posted mine

yeah i meant the rest of his body too

Wow I just made a topic about this.

Call me a nerd, but I really hope you can unlock all the Mk V components so we can see in high detail what Master Chief looked like in the Halo: CE period, but in high detail =P If you have a look at the screenshots, there are at least two, very different Elite armour permutations, and clearly huge amounts of customisation in the Spartans. I feel this bodes well for customising appearances. I know it's not a huge amount to make a fuss over as in the end it has no effect on gameplay whatsoever, but it's still damn cool and I look forward to it.
-
Yea lol more customisation is always good
-
Yes. Also i'd want a more customizable spartan, be able to change the armor on his legs, arms, hands, feet. [Edited on 02.01.2010 7:17 PM PST]
