5 RepliesUse cover to your advantage while you close the gap. Keep an object in between you and your opponent until the last second before the kill. Always follow a shotgun blast with a melee, if that shotgun doesn't kill, your melee will. Attack from angles your opponents doesn't expect (below or above), just blind rushing might work on occasion but it'll be a trade a lot of the time and that's not what you're after. It will also mess up their radar and they'll be looking at that, not you. If you're going into a situation against multiple targets make sure you prioritise (takes practice and thought); if someone has line of site on you, they are your first priority. Then don't panic and pick your next target. If a situation turns south, make sure you use all the equipment at your disposable to get out and reset the scenario. As you leave the room, leave a grenade behind you to deter a pursuer. Pick a good shotgun that suits your play style, the Conspiracy Theory you get from the vanguard quest line is fantastic! Have fun with it! You'll go negative a lot at first but a good shotgunner is one of the hardest people to play against! Depending on your class, pick a subclass and build that suits you. Titan: Defender - Exotic: No Backup Plans Perks: Jump: Increased Control (Titan Skate) Suppressor Grenade: in case you need to shut down a super Blessing of Light (means you can venture out of your bubble and be aggressive, which people don't expect) War Machine: increased reload while Force Barrier is active, goes perfect with a high impact shotgun and No Backup Plans. Warlock: Voidwalker - Exotic: Nothing Manacles/Obsidian Mind/The Ram (a lot more variety depending on your playstyle) Perks: Jump: Blink (easy choice) Scatter Grenade (great with Nothing Manacles) The Hunger Embrace the Void Great build for always having grenades and health regeneration. Hunter: Night stalker Exotic: Graviton Forfeit/Sealed Ahamkara Grasps (use Keen Scout with Graviton, Shadestep with Grasps) Perks: Vortex Grenade Jump: Not really different (I prefer triple) Envenomed Lockdown

4 RepliesEdited by Rojoemption: 4/22/2016 7:06:23 PM-Higher sensitivities tend to work a bit better but anything at a 4 or above will probably be fine -You're gonna want a hard hitting shotgun with as much range as possible (preferably a party crasher or the quest conspiracy theory) -You'll need to know how hard your shotgun hits and from where you can shoot -Know how maximize your movement on your class (control jump, shadestep, Titan skating, twilight Garrison, warlock skating, using MIDA, etc.) -Know the maps like the back of your hand and stick in your designated range. Don't challenges sniper lanes unless you're sure you can dodge a shot and have enough momentum to make it away alive -Know the obstacles you can use to navigate towards someone while making it difficult for them to hit you (running around pillars, using walls, etc.) all while building/maintaining momentum -Know when to push. Don't run straight at someone. Use your environment. You're not always going to find an unsuspecting opponent to go after. -Very rarely will you want to take an extremely direct approach. I can't stress enough how important cover is when you're shotgunning. -Know how to slide well. Sliding covers ground and screws with your hit box a bit. It's harder for you to get hit and covers enough ground so you can get an easier hit. -Know how/when to back off. There are some engagements you just shouldn't commit to. This comes with plain experience and you'll learn when to challenge and when not to eventually. -Commit when the time comes. Sometimes you're gonna wander around a corner where you think some unsuspecting sniper is scoping a lane and has no vision of you. Surprise! There's a guy who hit spawned 10 feet behind you and you're stuck in a pinch. Commit to your kill if your exits are blocked. Taking someone down can easily get you an escape route and snag you a kill in the process. -Use vertical space. Don't take the direct ground level approach every time. If you plan on committing to a kill and someone's already expecting you, try taking the fight to the air. Most people in this game have an extremely tough time predicting that. -Single out opponents. You're rarely going to want to jump into a group of people and start shooting and punching everything that moves. Try to single out a guy and get him away from his teammates. Shotguns are meant for fast paced, quick time to kill gameplay. Use them as such and pick your targets. -Never be afraid to use your primary. It's your best ranged weapon (with the exception of universal remote) and it should be used accordingly. If you need to challenge a longer ranged engagement (out of shotgun range) then know to use your primary. A MIDA works well because of the agility buff, quick time to kill, and good range. You're never obligated to use your shotgun in an engagement so don't feel pressured to do so. Pick your battles according to your weaponry. This is all I can think of off the top of my head. These are strategies that I notice highly skilled players and myself use fairly often. It doesn't take a specific person to use a shotgun. Just an intelligent, aware one.

Know when to rush. Most people think it's running straight at them, arms flailing, that's false. You want to get as close as you can without taking damage, so stick to cover. Map knowledge is nice because you can get the drop on people with a good, well timed flank. The skill ceiling for shotguns is deceptively high, but since they're so easy to use there's a lot of mediocre shotgun users out there.

Think smart, play aggressive

learn to titan skate on a striker with juggernaut and twilight garrison. that's literally all you need.

1 ReplyShotguns have changed a lot in destiny. Seen a few of these posts about shotgun tips.... Since movement and equip speeds have been nerfed significantly and the range has been nerfed like 7 separate times throughout this year and a half the perks for a good shotgun have changed slightly. You want to spec for movement speed and boosts to equip. Perks like single point swing, quickdraw, knee pads, + agility perk all make a huge difference. 90% of the time you wont get a one shot anymore, so close and personal is AMAZING! You gotta get used to it and be able to hit the trigger and your melee button almost simultaneously. This is also where the higher rof shotties become usefull again since it will almost always take more than one shot to put someone down ie the popularity of invective. Map knowledge is crucial too, sometimes you have to bait people around corners and also know when to rush. Mobility is essential as well, so blink for warlock and hunters is nice. Dont have a leveled titan but you can do some amazing things with titan skate im sure. If you want some potshots or practice in shotgun handling i recommend some 6v6 clash or control with a bd invisibility build. You can sneak up on people and let loose without doing crazy ass parkour all over the level.

Edited by elemenopee: 4/22/2016 7:14:57 PMUse blink. If youre a titan use no backup plans. Seriously though, being fast and getting the element of surprise both help a lot. I prefer fusions, however. Also, reload perk gauntlets.

Be fast

Edited by SeanyjoneS2: 4/22/2016 6:02:00 PMOnly use the Universal remote and another shotgun, then your forced to use a shotgun and all times

6 RepliesAll you need is blink. So if you are a titan....gg
-
I think you just go invisible and hide around that damn Anomaly map.
-
3 RepliesPut away the shotgun. Set down your 1000-Yard Stare or copy thereof. What drives you to such douchebaggery? Was it worth your honor? Did it have Hidden Hand? There are so many more things to master. Fusion rifles aren't that bad, and sidearns are useful. Some things are just fun to use and aren't overpowered. There is a knife for you. It is shaped like [creativity]. Take up the knife. Take your new shape.

Use cover while closing distance and do it faster :)
-
Learn to slide shotgun. Very handy. Also if you have twilight garrison...shotty is your best friend.
-
5 RepliesDidn't I already post to this?
-
Master the art of slide shotgunning.
-
just crouch and hide around corners. boom, profit.
-
Max out your sensitivity to nail those sliding blasts. And get reaaaaaaaly close
-
Timing is just as important when using a shotgun as it is using a sniper. Stick to corners and be ready down the sights. Also sliding is pretty when approaching.

1 ReplyIf you like jumping then shotgunning them, make sure you dont jump too early otherwise if its a good player youre coming up against they will backpedal and shoot you while youre in the air and unable to shotty them. If you have blink thats a whole other story though haha.
-
Stay close to walls and have a fast reaction time. Don't let people gank you. Or bait you into an open area that gives them the advantage. Tight hall ways are your friend .
-
Shotgun with striker and juggernaut=profit.
-
Shooting at people from a mile away just to do 1 damage is always worth it. Never skip on a chance to do it.
-
Use them on your titan and just play super aggressive

Try baiting people. Run around a corner and wait for the guy running at you to come around the corner and blam!!
