It also annoys me.
1 - It slows down telling friend from foe. Not by long, but split seconds matter sometimes.
2 - What in-game logic would cause guardians to wear it? Unless we are using it to infiltrate an enemy area, and there is no indication it works that way or serves that purpose.
Ignoring practicality and in-game logic, it looks kind of cool.

I respect your opinion, i dont like the look but thats just me and everybody is entitled to their own likes and dislikes. I dont go so far as to say my teammates cant have it just that i dont permit it being worn on my fireteam.

You're talking about the same guardians that commit mass suicide off the tower, play around with floating purple balls and servitors, worship a yellow-bar Vandal at the forgotten shore, wear a traveler ball on their heads, dance, and interfere with the effectiveness of their own weapons by yelling at some god they call "Bungie." It should not surprise you that they would take any chance to wear taken armor.
