Sigh, whats so hard to understand.
Lets break this down.
Games, before online play came out as full content games with no extra costs. Why? Because there was no online.
You bought the game, and just played on your system at home until everything was done then found another game to buy and play.
Now we're in the age of online gaming. Where we can play with others in all these uniquely designed, online multiplayer games. However, how do we play with each other? Through online servers.
Running a game through an always connected online server costs money. Its like keeping a light on in a room without ever turning it off. The longer you keep it on, the more money you have to pay if you want to keep it running.
Thats how online gaming works these days. A company cant just shell out an online game that players can play together and not sell DLC or other Micros of some sort: otherwise they wouldnt be able to keep the servers running.
Thats the biggest part most of you dont seem to understand these days. And yes, while buying Micros and having the possibility of spending hundreds on an RNG box to get what you want might seem a little ridiculous, but look at it this way.
If everyone just had to fork over $5 and got what they wanted, would the company keep making income to continue to support the games servers so that people can continue to play together and enjoy? No.

Obviously they're a business so they have things they need to spend money on like servers and employees. The problem is how they're doing it. Other games will drop small to large expansions for purchase to make money. Bungie is using the same tactics free to play apps use where you can get the stuff for free, but it's so slow and limited you are tempted to by them more and more every week.

You have to understand their team is most likely fractured as well. Even more so than it was a few months ago. Many are most likely working on destiny 2. The next biggest group which is probably small compared to the former is the group working on the fall dlc. Then you have your live team which works on the free small updates, and after that is your online team which solely manage servers and online problems, along with hotfixes and etc. The last two team might be switched in size in all honesty.
