Marathon-class Cruiser VS Halcyon-class Cruiser

In terms of combat effectiveness (commanders and AI assides) what ship would most likly be better suted for navel engagements. I belive that the Marathon Class Cruiser is far superier tho the Halcyon Class.
Correct me if I'm wrong though, but I believe that weight matters very little in space? Again I'm not sure about this, just something I read about once.
The force required to move an object in space is equal to that required to move it on Earth. While you're technically correct in stating that weight matters little in space, mass still matters, and mass times gravitational pull is how we determine weight. The greater somethings mass is, the harder it is to change its velocity. This applies planetside and in space. The difference is that here you have gravitational pull and friction working for or against you. In space there is very little of that. So yes, the "weight" of a vessel affects its ability to maneuver. [Edited on 01.22.2010 5:38 AM PST]

 •
Posted by: headhunter1024 the honeycombed http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/File:POA-InterdeckStructure.jpg body of the halcyon class was also very strong and can take a hell of a lot of damage
Except that doesn't really matter when they don't have the fire power to take out anything dishing them the damage. The Marathon Cruiser is superior to the Halcyon overall. It is after all the ship that replaced the Halcyon cruisers as the UNSC's cruiser of choice to begin with. The only exception is the Pillar of Autumn but that's only because it was specially outfitted.

 •
Posted by: GySgt Frew For argument perposes though a lighter ship typicaly means that it is more manoverable (i dont know if this has an effect in a 3D combat engagement though)
One of the problems with halcyons is that they sucked at maneuvering.

 • the only advantage the halcyon cruiser had was its level of armour plating, which was significantly "different" then any standard armour plating.

 • Well, considering the Marathon class ship is not only the newer class, but that it has more weapons, more advanced technology that went into the building of these ships, the Marathon class is better. I'm looking at halopedia, and apparently the halcyon class ship is only a third the tonnage of a Marathon class ship.

 • The encyclopedia states:
The Halcyon was outclassed in every way by the Marathon class Cruisers that replaced it.
The Halcyon has one less MAC, is slow, and only has 180 missiles compared to the Marathons 1800. The upgraded Halcyon might be a bit better(upgraded reactor, several thousand more missiles, new MAC) but probably still not as good as a Marathon.
