My idea on how to add burns back to primaries without isolating specific guns
One of my favorite things from year 1 was primarily guns that had elements. When I heard that bungie was going away from them I totally understood their reasoning. The problem was that since only a few guns had elements it shoehorned players into only choosing those few weapons for any pve encounter.(which isn't what the devs wanted) they wanted you to feel you had a powerful/unique gun but they didn't want that to be the answer for every situation. Some other great guns were left behind/never tried because well this gun had the correct burn for the mission.
This brings us to the current state of things where we now use more varied primaries than before, which is awesome, however I miss having elements on my guns. So here is my proposal that complements the devs desires with our own want to feel more powerful.
There could be an item that drops randomly from end of game content that infuses into whatever primary you want and it gives that weapon a specific burn. So for instance you beat oryx and you might get an arc rune that you can infuse into your DOP and now it does arc damage. My logic behind this is that this way we can still keep all of the weapons viable (no one gun will be any more powerful than it is now) while still getting the burn.
I'll let the devs work out the rest of the details (can a gun only be infused once? does it take one rune to infuse a gun or should it take multiple? what is the drop rate? what activities drop them? how do we make the game remember/overwrite the guns base damage type? ect)
Thanks,
