Why The Shadestep Ani-Cancel Isn't That Bad

To start off, yes, I main a Hunter, and yes, I am a Nightstalker, so my opinion may be slightly biased. Weaknesses The Shadestep Animation Cancel is a very controversial topic at the moment, a lot of people say it is "Gamebreaking" or "Overpowered" so people, as they always do, cry nerf. But here is my opinion on the matter. I do not believe it is gamebreaking or overpowered in the slightest. Not many people can pull this off effectively, for one. Two, if you shadestep glitch and do two consecutive rolls, you are on a cooldown for a good amount of time. Time in which you can easily by shot and killed. It isn't like you can just spam it to your heart's content. You aren't invincible while in mid shadestep either, people just aren't aiming in the right place, but I suppose that just comes with practice. If you shadestep glitch into the air, you are exceedingly vulnerable, as you cannot maneuver much while in the air, and this applies particularly to Hunters due to the nature of their Jump. So you have many opportunities to shut down an evasive Nighstalker. I play a LOT of Trials. And I mean A LOT. All weekend every weekend type of a lot, and I have never really had a problem dealing with other Ani-Canceling Nightstalkers. You just either shoot them while they are shadestepping, trap with a smoke, or any non tracking grenade for that matter, or wait for them to finish their little dance from afar and pop their dome when they show themselves again. Hunters are SLOW In my opinion, this is how Shadestep SHOULD BE, with no glitch neccessary. Hunters are supposed to be the nimble ones, the quick and deadly, Destiny's answer to an "Assassin or Rogue" class, like how Titans are supposed to be the Tanks, and Warlocks the Mages. Hunters should also be the fastest class in the game, but are they? No. Titans hold the place of both most armored and fastest class in the game, which is something that needs to be addressed. The Bones of Eao is the only thing that make Hunters match the speed of a Titan or even a Warlock, for without this, they are the slowest class in the game. Shadestep isn't even faster than sprinting! In fact, it might even be slower. I want to be able to confuse my enemies with Shadestep and then come at them in their daze to finish them off, which is exactly what the animation cancel does, and it feels bad ass. Those Damn Titans Going back to what I mentioned earlier about Titans being the fastest class. Not only that, but they possess the Twilight Garrison, which is far more effective than Shadestep alone. Yes, technically you have to be in the air and you spend much more time on the ground then you do in the sky, but you just have to tap the button to be half an inch off the ground in order to use it, so that whole argument is basically invalidated. This exotic bane of my existence further increases the Titan's mobility, and when combined with Juggernaut or shoulder charge is exceedingly powerful. Do I think it is game breaking? No more than the shadestep glitch. If they are going to cry nerf about Shadestep, then I'm going to say that something needs to be addressed about the Titans as well. The shadestep glitch, which takes some amount of skill to pull off, only matches effectiveness of Twilight Garrison and one of the a fore mentioned perks. IT LOOKS SO COOL This isn't a "balance" issue per say, but it is something I have thought of that I have seen no one else address. Machinimas. Destiny Machinimas are virtually impossible at the moment due to a lack of a theater mode, BUT Bungie did announce that we will have the ability to disable our HUD! That is one step closer! And the shadestep glitch would make an awesome effect in such a video. Now I know this has nothing to do with actual Crucible, but from a content creator perspective (Not that I claim to be one of any particular importance), that would be AMAZING. It Isn't Our Biggest Problem Shadestep isn't plaguing the game we all know and love as much as many other issues are. Thorn, Viking Funeral, and Scorch come to mind. This really requires a whole different post, but I personally think Viking Funeral should be only active during the super and/or the range on firebolt be significantly reduced, or the same solution for Thorn I am about to provide. And Thorn.... Oh Thorn, will you ever die. Just make it so it stops health regen! None of this - 3 shot to the body nonsense or these hit-and-run gunfights. Finally, Scorch. Now a lot of people complain about Warlocks, so this is nothing new, but I will go on anyway. I didn't want to complain about them without actually using them either, so over the past couple of months I spent a lot more time on my Sunsinger than I usually would and have come to these conclusions. Warlock melee can one shot. That should NEVER happen. EVER. I haven't actually tested this, so forgive me if it leaves you with 1 HP left. Not only that, but they also get an overshield, so it is nearly impossible to win a melee battle with a Sunsinger, much less survive it even if you manage to kill them. I think Bungie needs to adjust the burn on the melee so it isn't certain death to low armor builds, or at least be able to tank a few shots before going down in a blaze of glory. I also think that Warlocks should have to choose between an Overshield and an Endless burn. That seems fair right? Having both is just plain ridiculous. A very heated topic, to be sure. I know I am going to get hate for this, but such is the Destiny Community. Give me your reasons as to why you think shadestep ani-canceling should be fixed, maybe you can convince me. Try to keep it, ah, as civil as a Forum can be. That caps lock button packs quite a punch, I would prefer it if we kept it a debate, not a fight ;)
