Found this to be pretty funny, thought it might add a bit of humor to your day. Although all things to be considered this is a bit odd, because even though Avatar was in development for twelve years, so was Halo, and really, the public didnt know anything about it till later. I think its the other way around!
Posted by: Grunt Lover 69 More credit should be given to Ridley Scott who made the Alien Franchise unlike James Cameron who just made the sequel and gets the credit even seen as the creator. To be honest the first one is more influential then its Successor. One of the bosses in Metroid is even named after him!
The original just had a single boring alien, while the sequel brought in drop ships, super soldiers, cryogenics, cyborgs. Good day sir!

Everything is a copy of something else if you look hard enough. I think he needs to be quiet and enjoy his millions.
Posted by: Blame the lagg Look at that first picture in the link. That's Halo CE right? Look at the map behind chief, Valhalla in Halo CE?
Seriously? I'm very disappointed in the human race.
Posted by: Odhanan Well, he does have a significant point. MANY elements of the Halo franchise were originally inspired by Aliens, at the very least! Read here on Halopedia for more information.
Dude you read my mind
Posted by: The Trauma Won
Posted by: BDfreshman Maybe he should have copied more from Halo. At least then the move might have turned out decent. :/
That's offensive. The movie was a masterpiece.
Funny. Avatard was horrible. All it was was a rip on the U.S. military. Heck, Cameron even admitted it was. I only saw it because me and a few of my Navy buddies wanted to go rip on it in theaters before we shipped off again. Gud Timez
Posted by: DeniZen James Cameron wrote and directed Aliens, which is "regarded by many film critics as a benchmark for the action and science fiction genres." and from which Halo borrows heavily from. Cameron is right, fanboys. Get off your highhorse. The man is my personal hero. He directed Titanic, Terminator 1 and 2, and True Lies, three of my favorite movies. lrn2research.
Cameron thinks too highly of himself. Halo doesn't 'borrow' from Aliens. It's creators were merely influenced by the movie (which is a great movie). The same way Cameron was influenced by sci-fi movies before he created Aliens. Avatar wasn't great. In fact I rather hated it. The movie itself didn't remind me of Halo at all, but it did remind me of my all time favorite video game; Oddworld: Abe's Exodus. Similarities are rather striking between the two >_> [Edited on 04.22.2010 3:01 PM PDT]
Posted by: ShadowHalo94 That's a load of bull-blam!-. Halo came before Avatar. He might have had the same ideas and concepts as Halo, but he never revealed that to the public. And I doubt he's been working on Avatar for 12 years. I'm pretty sure they didn't have the capability to produce such high quality CGI back then.
Halo was influenced a great bit by Aliens, which was produced by james cameron. /thread
Posted by: Lies
Posted by: Barzma Uh which James Cameron film did the aliens in Halo rip off? Titanic?
That would be Aliens.
Oh. Didn't know he directed that. Well in that case, yes, halo blatantly ripped off everything from Sgt Johnson to some of the achievement names ("We're in for some chop"). Sorry for doubting you JC!

In my own opinion; I don't see much recognizable features in Avatar to Halo. Then again Avatar was to damn glowy to recognize anything in my opinion. Where as Halo did reference some factors in the movie Alien but then again Halo has made alot of references to other things; Yet I highly doubt they copied anything. Most inspiration starts as that and does not result in a copied material but something that transcends original content and blended with ones own creativity. Either way; I say leave this arguement alone. Because if someone did copy someone. Well lets just say I smell a impending lawsuit that most likely will not take place.

Alien/Aliens maybe? Also look up Ringworld, most new sci-fi properties these days are just rehashed versions of old ones

He also said that Avatar had nothing to do with environmental awareness, yet he makes a big deal about releasing it on Earth day......
