What are your speeds and how does the game do with them. Hughes net has 15 mbps plan wondering if the crucible is playable with it.

Do NOT get satellite Internet for gaming. I hear the ping is god awful
-
I get about 27 mbps for download and about 0.7 mbps for upload. It's literally immposible to play multiplayer anything. I can't even talk to people when I join their parties.

1 ReplyI have satellite internet and i can tell you that it is terrible to try and game online with. I can play destiny most of the time without tok much trouble, i can even play crucible without much lag most of the time. But I absolutely cannot matchmake into anything unless someone else has the lead. The biggest pain. Best thing i can suggest if you're stuck with it is to use an ethernet connection. Good luck

Satellite internet is the worst possible type of Internet you can have for Multiplayer games. You are GUARANTEED to have lag.
-
The upload speed will make it next to impossible. You will be a red bar...and come in first place each match.
-
3 RepliesThe latency on satellite internet is likely going to be a bigger factor than the download speed. Satellite is pretty notorious for high ping. If you're looking at switching to them, I'd suggest checking out their policies for canceling the service, just in case the experience ends up being unplayable.

8 RepliesDon't worry. I'm playing off my Hotspot on my phone. I can't even get cable Internet or get -blam!- by 180 dollar satellite Internet.
-
I had to endure that crap for a few weeks when I moved last year. It looks good on paper but in practice it was BAD! I couldn't play crucible unless a friend was on to take lead or it wouldn't find any matches. When I did get in games I would end up dead before my shots ever registered. The strikes playlist was the same, matchmaking would run until it timed out and put me in solo.

8 RepliesI feel your pain bro, I'm stuck with Frontier, and the best I've ever gotten was 2.32 down, and like .6 up. We pay for 6mbps down...

3 RepliesEdited by Rezyl Azzir: 4/4/2016 8:01:20 PMI have satilite WiFi, 15mbps... When paired with the "WTfast" application, I get a pretty solid connection... I've been through so much trying to get rid of error codes... I've finally gotten to a point where they happen very rarely... https://www.wtfast.com

When you "squirt the bird", your outbound signal has to travel the distance from your house to terrestrial orbit and be retransmitted back down to Hughes.net BEFORE it can enter the Internet in general. (From this point more like a traditional cable/Sal/whatever connection.) But, that's just getting a signal out. You still need a reply to complete the connection, which essential reverses the same path, including on jump to orbit and back down to earth. So satellite has all the normal burden of communication, PLUS 4 trips the distance of orbit. At the frequencies used, the double round trip just makes any "timely" communication impossible. (VoIP, gaming, etc) [Using light, one would be able to at least increase the speed of travel, but that's just not practical (feasible but not cost effective) at this time. ] That being said, there are plenty of "non-traditional" solutions for rural connections. Most of them are small (in contrast to a cable or phone company), don't have an advertising budget, and serve a small regional user base. (Additionally, there have been federal funds set up to facilitate some of these services to the "internet poor".) So, they can sometimes be hard to find. And, sometimes over-subscribed by the people that have found them (no push for new subscribers). Check something like DSLreports.com for alternative choices in your area. (Not exhaustive list, but at least a place to start.)

Its all about that fiber bro

8 RepliesFirst two posts explained it correctly. That ping to the satellite it going to break the thought of gaming.
-
Satellite connections have a baseline ping over 500ms between the user and the satellite due to the distance, with that kind of delay you can't really play anything online that isn't turn based, and even those games might not work very well since satellite connections are unreliable.

2 RepliesMy friend has the best package Hughes net has and is unable to play crucible and cannot match make on strikes. But it could just be his set up.
