Summary of Reach Game Informer Information

Here's some information I gleaned from the mag, summarised into a post. [b]Don't post saying "Wolverfrog copied and pasted this from *Insert lazy news website here*." I'm the original gatherer of this info, loads of websites have been copying it without giving credit where it's due.[/b] [b]Links to any magazine scans will NOT be posted in this thread, period. If you want to see them, I recommend Google. Please don't PM me asking for links.[/b] [quote][/quote] - Reach will NOT follow the book, Fall of Reach. - We play as Spartan [b]III[/b]s. Jorge is the only Spartan II on the team, and as a result is larger. - Carter 259 and Kat 320 are the only members of their original squad. - Jorge is a heavy weapons specialist. - "Skully" now has a name, Emile 239. He's the silent type of the game. - The sniper is called Jun 266. He's thoughtful and taciturn. - We can customise the appearance of the Lone Wolf by a small degree. Awesome. - The game is apparently darker than any of the other Halo games, even more so than ODST. - Human Insurrectionists are possibly in the game - Bungie have once again made the Covenant more dangerous and frightening, as they were in Halo 1. - Covenant soldiers no longer speak English, they speak in their own languages. - A new enemy like a Jackal has been introduced, named a "Skirmisher." They are deadly and cunning enemies that attack in packs, and flank secure positions. - Graphics have been improved drastically, as proven by in-magazine comparisons. - Elites are back, and are more ferocious than ever. - Larger scale combat will be in Reach. Where only 20 AI at a time could be on screen in Halo 3, now over 40 AI and 20 vehicles can be present at a time. - Scenes are more cinematic. - Noble Team splits up at a point in the story, but it seems they soon get back together. - Health Bar is back along with energy shield. - Single shot rifle like the Halo 2 E3 demo is in the game, named the Designated Marksman Rifle (DRM) - Sniper, AR and Magnum make a return. Gun sounds are more realistic. - Needler Rifle is in the game, a mid-range headshot capable weapon. - Spike Grenades and Flame Grenades are out. Only frags and plasma remain. - Helicopter Transport is called the Falcon. - Civillian vehicles are now drivable. - Fully stealthy gameplay is now possible. - Assassinations are possible with a knife by holding down the melee button. - Sprinting is now possible through an equipment like mechanic. - Spirits, the Covenant drop ship in CE, return in Reach, alongside Phantoms. - Grunts look a lot more menacing. - Motion Tracker seems compressed, like an oval rather than the Halo 3 circle. - Hud is yellow rather than blue. - Marines look vaguely like Halo 1 marines. - Phantoms now have a flashlight, like the one seen in the ODST announcement trailer. - Elites seem taller, and are no longer hunched. - All features from Halo 3 (Forge, Theatre, Co-op) make a comeback along with several new ones. - We will be shown what Reach looks like before it is destroyed. We will see the levels of destruction progress as we get further through the game, implying the game takes place over a longish period of time. [quote][/quote] That's basically what I've got so far.   • Well the article was certainly interesting- to say the least. One concern I have is the assassinations. The picture looked a little... Halo: CEish. As in the graphics for it might not be up to snuff. I can only hope I'm just blind from being out in the cold so long (I'm freezing right now!). But this new Battle Rifle. I am incredibly pleased. Perhaps the Battle Rifle replacement (DMR was it?) will take the position the BR was meant to take- an anti sniper weapon. In Multiplayer hopefully we won't have the all powerful long range weapon that is in Halo 3. Perhaps it'll work similar to the pistol in Halo 3: ODST. Ooo goodie I never thought I'd be excited about a Battle Rifle-like gun!

  • here something that will be a downer to some, how is the new enemy and covvie gun going to fit canon the human weapons are easy it's reach there prototypes, but who knows, maybe the new covvie weapon is a proto as well, that just leaves the jackals cousins.

  • If DRM is the new pistol (replacement for gameplay purposes, like BR), what role will the pistol have? -blam!- backup weapon that you switch for a rocket launcher? And will Bungie finally make the medium range weapon(s, if Covie Carby is in too) balanced and not too versatile/OP like in Halo Trilogy?

  • All this info is awesome. The only nitpick I have so far is that the AR looks stupid. Besides that though Reach sound sweet. If I can drive a forklift in forge that would be epic.

  • I'm really hoping MP plays a lot more like CE, with this DMR being the new Pistol. The needle rifle looks interesting too. Only time will tell though.

They said it was because having 4 grenades in Halo 3 made it slightly confusing and a pain to shift through all the grenade types to get the one you want. And sometimes you could accidentally throw one you didn't want to throw. Almost everything I read I loved. The only thing I'm skeptical about are the armor ability things.[/quote] Not that there was ever a moment in time (at least in the multiplayer) where you had more than two types of grenade...[/quote]There was the spike grenade... I get what Bungie is saying though. There were many times in the campaign where in the middle of a fight I was scrambling to switch grenades and then died, or threw a frag right at a brute instead of a sticky and having it bounce right back at me.
