Trials and Crucible Light spoofing during Matchmaking. How many others have noticed this and are fed up to the point you don't enjoy playing the pvp events?

I don't play pvp because of this.

I haven't noticed.

I do this just to be able to compete.

This needs to be addressed in the next patch. I have seen the so called matchmaking fixes and could not understand why my newer characters (~290 light) were still being matched with players over 300 light. Tonight I had some help figuring out what they were doing from my fireteam. There are many players who are legitimately over 300 light but who deliberately equip low level weapons/equipment before matchmaking to ensure they are paired with weaker opponents. Then during the loading sequence they re equip their stronger gear. Case in point, tonight my fireteam was paired with 3 players at light levels between 294-298. When the match loaded and began all three, same gamertags, had jumped to over 310 light levels and were destroying us with one shots and melee. How about a fix for matchmaking that works? Say, for instance, whatever gear a player has equipped during the matchmaking process is locked for use during the match. Alternatively, change matchmaking to incorporate the highest possible light level from any combination of gear the player currently has in inventory, regardless of what is equipped. Any constructive alternatives or comments from the community would be appreciated. I am sure I can't possibly be the first to notice this happening, thought I'm sure many have noticed and may have just followed suit. • It's your fault for not being 320... No need for bungie to cater to what you want just because you're too lazy to raid, or your too bad to go flawless for gear. the light advantage is vary small, 10 light means you might be able to survive a shoulder charge without ram as a lock, but strikers and locks can already survive it with proper specs and armor perks.

  • Light doesn't affect mm. You see people at lower light because they're putting on weapons that will give them special ammo (icebreaker/low level sidearms).

  • PVP is the only thing to play IMO. With the lack of PVE content PVP is the only thing that offers any kind of entertainment.

  • For the love of God, NERF the damn warlock. Makes playing other classes not fun in the pvp when people just spam the cheap warlock abilities.

    • Ever heard of changing a strat in a match like having a shotgun equiped on a map that sniping is clearly better. I would highly reccomend you get good by trying real hard. Match making for trials is prioritized by wins then by connection. Just bc you can do trials at 290 light doesn't mean you can take on 320 light players. Learn what you are talking bout before you post instead of complaing about the game working how it should.

Well for normal crucible Light Does not matter. All matchmaking consists of is "skill" and "connection" For Trials there's all the added feature of being paired with players around the same number of card wins. Also the most probable reason players are equipping low level gear is because of the Icebreaker ammo tactic.

        • It goes by wins , not skill. Sometimes a group of 320s is on round one. Adapt. This is not binges fault though.

We now have two comments to the issue in this post from RisingTiger and BrandonDeasy. I would like to address these now, but for future comments, please read the post entirely before commenting. This is related to a hole in the matchmaking logic that allows players to lie about their light level during matchmaking, and yes it does come into play as it is the average of all of your offensive and defensive gear. @RisingTiger - You are correct that this has less effect in a normal Crucible match, but after testing I can assure you the effect is there. The idea that matchmaking is based on "Skill" is not accurate because a players "skill" cannot be measured, only the players achievements in-game, like the grimoire and the history of previous battles. Some players are more adept at PVP and that shows in these events, I admit that. I do have one question for you since yours was the constructive comment, and I do appreciate that. As far as Trials matching with the added 'Card Wins" as you say, explain why it matches players that are 5-0 or higher with those that are 0-2. There are many reports of this happening by players on multiple forums. Seems like matchmaking is broken still, doesn't it? I posit that it is not broken, but rather 320 light players are equipping low level gear for matchmaking. You say it does not matter, yet the calculations in the matchmaking system take a players offensive and defensive capabilities into account when choosing suitable opponents for a 'fair' match. This calculation is then thrown out the window when that player goes from his weak weapons, which dropped his light level to ~295 during matchmaking, to his most powerful weapons once the match loads. You referred to this as an "Icebreaker Tactic", which is used on Raids. This is not the case, we are not referring to players who find 'holes' to lie in wait and avoid damage, these players are active and mobile across the map @BrandonDeasy : Trying to convince yourself that this is all tactics is about as lame as you can get. If you believe that our team doesn't change tactics based on event and terrain you really don't need to be commenting on this. I have already stated that the matchmaking is being spoofed, yet you try to blame it on 'tactics' without knowing any of my match history or my team. Being that you are a 320 light level player I guess that would mean you are trying to compensate, maybe a sense that your dishonesty is showing through and you don't want Bungie to 'fix' this hole in their system because then you will actually have to play other 320 players and work for your wins? You are correct about one thing though and I will admit this, the game is working as it 'should', which means it only calculates the algorithm during matchmaking and after the match loads it will not recalculate and therefore any stronger gear you equip will throw off the balance of the match. Point is, if your 320, match as a 320, don't be a punk cheater who is afraid of a challenge. If you are an 'honest' player, than there is no need to lower your gear before matchmaking, grow up, sometimes you lose, stop trying to make yourself feel better by beating on lower players who are trying to honestly have fun.
