"I am Vice Admiral Danforth Whitcomb.....

temporarily in command of the UNSC military base Reach. To the Covenant uglies that might be listening, you have a few seconds to pray to your damned heathen gods. You all have a nice day in hell..." The NOVA Bomb is a cluster of nine nuclear warheads encased in lithium triteride. When the warheads are activated, the lithium triteride shell focuses the blast in upon itself, multiplying the destructive power a hundredfold. This gives the NOVA Bomb an unprecedented payload for its size. Its capability to destroy a planet has earned it the nickname "Planet-Killer". It should be noted that on the one recorded event when a NOVA Bomb was detonated in the midst of a fleet close to a planet, it scorched one quarter of the planet's surface due to a concentration of thermal energy inside the planet's atmosphere; it also shattered a moon. Any further detailed analysis on the full power of this bomb has yet to be mentioned in the Halo series, but it is known that it is the most destructive weapon in the UNSC's arsenal. If Bungie wants to end their run with the Halo franchise with a bang, what better way to do it than with a NOVA Bomb? I really hope we witness one detonated in Halo : Reach. Who is with me? I think that would be cool. OOH! Maybe Master Chief was put back through time to a moment before Reach was destroyed, and he knows about the threat. He tells CASTLE Base to prepare, along with the rest of Reach, and they ready the NOVA Bombs for the attack. When the Covenant arrive, the NOVA Bombs are set off, and the blast destroys the Covenant Fleet. But something goes wrong. The explosion destroys the planet, and Master Chief is sent back to the present because of some effect the blast had. After he returns to the present, he sees what has changed, and a new storyline begins. Just something I thought of. :P [Edited on 01.01.2010 6:05 PM PST]

Vice Admiral Whitcomb showing up in Reach, in one form or another, would be fairly cool, to say the least. It's assumed that the Spartan IIs that he was with were the ones who actually rescued him, but I suppose you never know. The detonation of a NOVA bomb would be absolutely amazing. They are planet destroyers and we never actually got to see one of these detonated, to my knowledge. I don't even know if one was ever used in the books. I think a NOVA's destructive force was merely talked about and not used. I do, however, remember that one or more of them were armed on the Reach, which is why the Master Chief, Whitcomb, Halsey, and everyone else, had to leave Reach as soon as they could.
Read Ghosts of Onyx. One was detonated, and it put the Death Star to shame when it did.
Weren't those FERNIS Nuclear Warheads?
No, I'm referring to the one accidentally set off by the Engineers over Joyous Exultation. The FERNIS warheads were set off by Kurt outside the Dyson Sphere entrance.
Ah ok thanks. Just skimread Onyx and found the part you were referring to.

Holy crap...
Even better wouldn't it be awesome to have the bomb explode while you are in the seat of a fast plane or ground vehicle, and then you would have to drive to an escape while on the very rim of the spreading super explosion. Like the president's plane in the movie "Independance Day".
If it is a ground vehicle, I think it would end with you dying...if you get what I mean.

 •
Posted by: nOOb elimanter We don't know if the Covenant took more than one bomb from Reach. They might have taken all of them, since it was implied that there were multiple bombs. If there are some bombs left on Reach, the game will have to cover the timeline of First Strike if we're to see Reach destroyed. In Fall of Reach the Admiral said that he armed one of them, if that one that was armed was taken off Reach by the Covenant, wouldn't what ever is on the ship, and near the ship go up in a fireball? Well that depends if they took it of of Reach before Admiral armed it then it wouldn't blow up but if took it after it was armed BOOM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To be honest I would love to play into some of First Strike. Who the hell says that Halo Reach will only be based on TFoR? If that cinematic was really the opening cinematic, then the game would be pretty short if it was solely based around TFoR. And if we do see one detonated, I think it would be in a cinematic. Seeing one in first person view may mean that we get caught in the explosion. Which means a death of a main character. :P
I would love to see a NOVA detonated in Halo : Reach :D It would perhaps end up being more badass than that time Kurt detonated himself and 2 nuclear warheads in the core room on the Planet Onyx.
God I loved that part. It was one of the most badass parts of any of the books. "Die? Haven't you heard? Spartans never die." Then Kaboom.
