My name in Bau'rac. I am a member of the siege dancers II Cohort/Century 2/Maniple 2. I have lived for many rotations on this ancient iron world. I have learned to rely on my brothers and sisters; Kour'ull and Pall'ull will forever hold a line with their shields to each others backs, Hod'urn shakes the ground with his very presence, Cadut is ever keen with her her mind, commander Tog'aul leads our charge, and forever bless her bond sister, Gour'ug. May her name find peace in the empire forever after the shadow fire stole her from our blessed commander.
We had worked a thousand missions the same as before, all until the assassination of Valus Tau'rauc. After the loss of our Valus we followed the doctrine of the skyburners, that was until the shadow fire. Gour'ug was swallowed before our eyes.
Since then, the battle net has been flooded with constant false reports, rendering it completely useless. We have no idea who has survived. None of the ships have enough fuel to make it anywhere other than Phobos, but that would only matter if we had a ship.
5 sectors outside of the lost oasis
"We have five sectors left to cross before we reach the structure detailed in the blind legion report!" Shouts commander Tog'aul in encouragement.
"Your suit systems will not make it that far" replies Cadut, "following regular procedure, the sand eaters should have set up a fire base within this sector."
"My pressure gel is already beginning to lock up. We need to find this base", I reply.
"The sensors are picking up something. Take position." Yells Tog'aul.
A pack of harpies are scouring over the dunes two kilometres in the distance.
"They've been hunting down any survivors they can since the shadow fire." Says Pall'ull
"Don't worry, they're just Virgo models, we can take them." Replies his brother Kour'ull.
The harpies turn their attention to us.
Kour'ull and Pall'ull both slam their shields into the ground, just as soon as a barrage of solar shots fry the fronts.
Hod'urn blasts the harpies with a series of micro rockets, dispatching all but one.
The harpy weaves around the phalanxes and deploys on me.
In a split second, Tog'aul tackles the harpy to the ground under her sheer weight and the use of her jump pack, as she tears out it's sensory optics, all while the machine fires randomly into the sky.
"Run!" screamed Tog'aul as vex spires begin pulling themselves from the dunes.
We make it behind a dune before the fog clears.
"Oh empire, they are going to find us" says Pall'ull nervously.
"I found something" says Cadut as she uncovers a pressure container buried in the sand.
"It's the fire base!" I yell ecstatically.
"Hod'urn slam the dune over here" says Tog'aul.
The dune collapses inwards to reveal it is the door to the fire base.
We move inside and block the door with a crate to deter any vex incursions.
"Cadut, get into the computer systems. Hod'urn, help me break into the storage rooms." Commands Tog'aul
"Hey Bau'rac, what do you think happened to the skyburners after they attacked the hive flagship?" Asks Kour'ull.
"For all I know, we could be the last cabal in the empire. You saw what the fire did to Gour'ug. Who knows where she is now." I reply.
"Do you think a little shadow fire is capable of stopping the emperor?" Asks Pall'ull hesitantly.
"Obviously not." Yells Tog'aul, "his light would extinguish any shadow cast by any fire" she proudly proclaims, "let's just hope he can bring her back", she mutters under her breath.
"Cut it!" Cadut snaps, "there's something. It's on all channels!"
"I am no longer Bracus Drog'ull, today I am supreme primus Drog'ull, commander of the bone crushers. Our empire has betrayed us, these machines we fight daily never cease, the dead persons hunt us as sport, the shadow fire's mutilate our comrades. No more. We shall move on. Forge a better path. And one day we can take the fight to our enemies. Join me on this Renaissance at the cradle aerodrome. Our fleet is substantial enough to save the survivors of this suicidal campaign. Fight for the true empire. The cabal empire. Not our faux leader we are subject to."
"Others survived!" Shouts Kour'ull
"But they're insane", retorts Tog'aul, "don't they remember the broken legion?"
The cabal's moment of surprise is cut short by the sound of gunfire.
"Dead persons!", exclaims Tog'aul in horror.
