Syndicate, Primal & The Division. Ubisoft on the Upswing?

Waaaaaaaaa??? Well they have been, at least for me anyways. My story actually starts with The Crew. Sht tier game for sure, the only one on this list. Buggy, bad servers, strange physics and every gripe rightfully levied at an Ubisht title. Yet it was by far the most fun I've had in a racing game with my two real life brothers. Cruising around the US in our childhood pin up cars, glitches and griefing became a riot. Bad game, Great Fun. Next up is Syndicate. The umpteenth entry for a series that's become extremely long in the tooth. Even without the glitzy navel combat of Black Flag the Victorian Era, bad@$$ HQ, Duel protagonists, Rope launcher, Carriage Hijacking and Animus "Glitch" era were fantastic. I hadn't played an AC title since second Ezio game and was able to clearly see just how far the series has come, even if some issues STILL persist to this day. Then I Picked up Primal. Yup, I watched that "same map as FC4" video too. But ya know what? I spent an extensive amount of time searching for a collectable in one of those areas and it never occurred to me once that I had stood in that very same spot in FC4. Playing Primal on Hard with the HUD turned off is an extremely immersive experience and it goes a long way toward separating this title from its predecessors. Now I'm trekking down the contaminated streets of NY in The Division. Can't give a final Verdict cuz I'm only level 15 ATM. I had borrowed a copy from my cousin and after 5 hrs the number Crunching RPG Loot hooked me. In game files, security footage and echos are a nice way to show just how effed up the situation was/is. So I picked it up. After watching me play for awhile my real life brothers went out and picked it up too. Now we're all cleaning up the streets of NY together. So yah, Ubisoft seems to be making a turn for the better. Thoughts, comments, questions?

  • Maybe. Ubisoft games were becoming comically uniform. Even their racing games had towers to trigger more shit on the cluttered UI. The Division seems to be getting a generally positive reception while also breaking the tired Ubisoft formula. Grow Home was probably the start of some good Ubisoft games coming out. I do agree that they're making a turn for the better, however they're not quite hitting them out of the park.

    • Unity was a blessing in disguise. It forced them to get their shit straight. I had some fun playing unity but it was middle of the pack for story compared to other AC games. The fiasco regarding the various issues helped them in the long run to not just make games that run properly but are better overall.

      • I love Ubisoft. I know often games are released with glitches but I have been hooked on the FarCry series since FarCry 3. It is a brilliant series, captivating story and fun, open and diverse gameplay. And the Division is brilliant. It is fun and challenging. I never got into Assassins Creed, but more because I never enjoyed playing as Desmond/other modern day people. As a company they haven't tried to milk players with near forced DLCs, DLCs with Ubisoft do what they should - enhance or expand the game. As far as I am concerned, keep up the good work Ubisoft. Yes they can improve, and I hope they do. But I do respect them and their work.

        • No, just no... I'm actually at a loss for words in how to explain just how crappy a company they are... The real sad part is just how indifferent most consumers have become... Just because the game didn't release in an unplayable state does not give them a pass. Look at reviews for all those games and they will talk about bugs and glitches on day one...they are still releasing their games without properly testing them, and yet consumers like you have just seemed to normalize this...allowing it as though it is standard. You want their games to stop coming out in a crappy state? Well then stop preordering them or buying them on day one. THE POINT BEING THAT UBISOFT HAS NOT LEARNED THEIR LESSON AND IS STILL RELEASING THEIR GAMES IN A POOR STATE. Is it as bad as Unity? No, but that doesn't give them a pass. Unless you want them to release another game like Unity, stop putting up with their s***. I mean, the Division had several betas and still had server errors on day one. Essentially it proved that they were using the beta as a demo to promote sales rather than an actual stress test. Then their is the issue of false advertising. It was a s*** show when Watchdogs had a graphical downgrade. The Division did the same thing, yet people have normalized this behaviour and treated it with far more indifference. They do the same thing with "the mic trick" used in R6 and Division trailers. So no, they have not fixed a god damn thing. I hope you are starting to get the picture by now. If not, well you only have yourselves to blame when AC Ubiquity or Far Cry Upheaval or The Division: Uniform comes out in an unplayable mess of a game.

Syndicate is a pretty tired AC game. Thank god ubisoft are giving it a rest this year, though maybe it's had its day. AC's original creator, Patrice Desilets who I think left ubisoft after AC2, has been working on a new historical game with his own company, though things have gone quiet for the past year or so - that game interests me more than yet another AC game, so hope it's good

I really want Primal and am entirely ready to verbally bash everyone who stupidly said the game would be bad because it didn't have guns. LMAO seriously? That's pathetic. And as for the same map, GOOD. The damned thing was huuuuuge! This was obviously more of a mid-game to stave our Farcry needs off until the next number release (5). I wasn't expecting series altering gameplay lol..

              • Rainbow six siege, most revolutionary new shooter out. Absolutely a blast. Same with Division.

              • Ac unity killed Assassins Creed but it was already dying slowly after 3. 4 was a decent game but it was about pirates not assassins...

              • I lost all faith in Ubisoft after ac unity and the crew. But damn ac syndicate, RS6:siege, and the division have restored that faith. Here's hoping wildlands is a success too.

                • The only Ubisoft game I've played is AC4, so their track record has always been pretty good for me.

Agreed, FC Primal and The Division are both great IMO. And although they aren't "new" or "innovative" they're both solid games.

                      • I like most Ubisoft games and they are by far my favorite dev/ publisher. Not because I love every game but at least they take chances unlike Activision and other shit tier pubs. Also throw in Siege which has done well and yeah, I would say I look forward to For Honor and Wildlands.
