Is Fallout suitable for a child?

So my 12 year old son has been asking me for Fallout 4 quite recently. I have been looking online and the reviews are quite mixed so I was wondering if you could help me decide.

As a whole, no. It's rated M for a reason. That said, except for it being a little gory he probably won't notice any of the darker and less suitable things.

In my opinion it's all about how mature he is. Fallout 4 isn't particularly bad in my experience. I will say there is limb removal and things you would expect from Fallout (bit of gore, drugs, gun combat). In the end it's really up to you as the father to judge if you think he is ready for a game like fallout. You know him better than anyone on these forums would. One thing you could do is rent it for yourself for a few days and see what it's all about and take it from there.

  • I played gta 3 when I was 4. I think it's okay for him to play fallout.

    • Is he a mature and responsible child? If he is he could handle fallout.

Depends on what other type of content you let him watch/play. Does he watch movies or shows that have cursing and gore sometimes? If so I think he could probably deal with it. But it's up to you..obviously.

    • Honestly as a parent you should decide. Eventually they will see that stuff and it won't effect them due to the fact it's a game. But you should decide if you think they are mature enough to handle it

Well, it depends on how you treat your child as far as censorship. My parents didn't care about blood or gore, they just wanted to keep me from neked bits when I was younger. The game consists of some common swearing (such as b*tch, sh*t, b*stard), and includes the "F" word. The "F" word is only used about three times in main dialogue, and may not even be said depending on your dialogue choices. It can also be heard by bandits at random when you're fighting them. Fallout 4 contains blood and gore. When you shoot someone, they will splatter blood and leave a stain nearby. You can also remove body parts of enemies (head, arms, legs) either by them exploding or falling off. Other than the limbs lying around, there are no piles of guts anywhere, and the closest thing would be "Meat Sacks" which are just red goopy messes. There is no nudity or sexual content in Fallout 4. But it does contain sexual themes. After building a relationship with certain NPCs, you can flirt with them and have them become romantic companions. If you have them in your company when you sleep in the game (sleeping causes your screen to fade to black), after you awake they will rise from where you slept (fully clothed) and make a suggestive statement such as, "That was fun." So sexuality is hinted at, but never shown. This game also has drug and alcohol use. NPCs will smoke, and your character can consume alcohol. Your character can also use drugs, referred to as "Chems" which offer buffs to gameplay, such as slowing down time, more damage, increased strength, ect. There are no drugs that imitate the effects of marijuana, cocaine, heroine, ect. All in all, like I said it depends on how you shelter your child or not. As a recap: Common swearing, "F" word used rarely. Blood stains, limb removal, no organs. Suggested sex, no actual nudity or content. Character can consume alcohol and drugs. This is a summary of the game. You can reply with anymore specific questions.

HELL NO! It is NOT appropriate. The game has absurd bloody gore scenes and some perks make the violence worse. There is strong language and suggestive scenes. Here's an example why you shouldn't let him play. There is a Murderer in the game who uses blood and body parts for his art which you can see all his art in a specific location in disturbing detail. This is no game for a kid.

The question in your title and the one in your post are asking different things. To answer the question in your title, I don't believe it is appropriate. I have the game and won't play it with my 7 year old in the room.

        • Definitely not. Lots of gore, sexual themes, and strong language. Not for kids

        • It's a scientifically imaginative game, yeah it has adult themes, but if you talk to your kid or play it with him, you might be able to start a convo with him and teach him what's appropriate to take out of and leave in the game. But, they aren't my kid, this is just a thought.

        • Laughing at all the people who's response was " depends on his maturity" are you serious? It's a 12 year old we are talking about. No you should not let him get Fallout at 12 years old. Buy him Pokemon or something. No need to have him exposed to drug use and murder constantly, but he's your son not mine

            • Helllllllllllll no lol. Despite the fact that most children opt to skip dialogue to kill stuff.. The game just isn't suited. Any number of things the child may hear and not understand can be brought anywhere with the child. "MOM, I USED YOUR EPPY PEN BECAUSE I THOUGHT IT WAS PSYCHO AND I HAD TO BEAT RICHARD (older brother) UP"
