This is a step by step breakdown of why I loved VoG, followed by some random reasons that may just be personal.
While building the spire, it feels kinda like you're opening the gates to hell. You don't really know what's gonna happen when it's done and it feels insanely cool.
The first ascendant chest gave you USEFUL LOOT.
Defending the influxes made you feel like a badass, 6 warriors against an army of time-traveling-robo-monsters was awesome.
Oracles were a totally new mechanic that, while hard, was feasible with a good team. Also it felt really cool to save the day when one oracle almost got away from the whole team.
The Templar was an awesome fight. The mechanic was great, the buildup was great (seeing him pop his stupid ass in and out of that room for like 30 minutes creates some tension).
Using the relic was fun as hell.
Going to the exotic chest was a huge deal, and it was exciting as hell.
Slipping past the gorgon's like sperm through a faulty condom made you feel like a ninja. A crazy space-magic ninja.
The jumping puzzle was short, different, and interesting. I personally love platforming and it made me happy, while not upsetting people that don't like platforming. Also watching new people die 8 trillion times was hilarious.
Going through time felt AWESOME!
Atheon looked amazing, felt like an unbelievably difficult fight (at the time), but still felt DOABLE. It didn't feel like a lost cause the way Oryx does and, also unlike Oryx, I looked foreword to the fight.
Now for the random thoughts:
The loot was awesome and considered some of the best for a long time.
Everyone got excited about the loot no matter what they got.
The aesthetics were amazing, both to look at and in atmosphere.
It was full of mystery and wonder, nobody explores the dreadnought looking for secrets because nobody cares.
Knowing the people could show up and see you trying to build the spire was really cool. Vain, but cool.
Shoulder charging bitches off the ledge while afk was hilarious.
That's all. Anything I left out?

Yes I agree on the oryx part I always despise getting to oryx
-
1 ReplyYet no one remembers how bad the rng was in VoG.
-
I think the loot was awesome especially for the remainder of the year because of etheric light. Could you imagine that gear limited to 100 light forever? It is/was end game loot - it should be rated accordingly.
-
Really good times in there. Nobody does it any more though so those memories are gone.
-
1 ReplyWhy do you say loved? As in past tense? Nothing has changed about it.
-
Vog was just ok to me. Dont understand all the hype, but hey, good for you if you enjoyed it immensely.
-
Armor was sweet. Weapons were sweet. Cooperation was rewarding. The first time doing it I was absolutely lost. Oh and don't forget the heroics of taking down the gatekeepers. Shit was 25/10 on my scale.
-
The weapons were amazing. Armor even looked good except the hunter helmet wasn't a big fan of it. Great times

1 ReplyAgree with all of the above^ running relic at the Templar is the best part in my opinion:)

10 RepliesY dont they make a remake with taken influence in the vault of glass, and oryx is trying to take atheon (or the taken is trying to use atheons power to revive oryx)......the guardians enter only to find a war between the taken and vex. Same bosses with sprinkles of taken here and there id definitely love to give it grind time. Or another way of remaking is that the cabal took over the vault of glass and is planning to use the secrets to take on on oryx and instead of finding vex the guardians find hordes of the cabal infesting the vault. Same boss mechanism but with a cabal theme controlling the same oracles.....drops could be just year 2 vog drops. Bungie we dont want racing or valentine crucibles, we want remakes of vog, crotas end, and poe.

Bring back VoG! I would give anything for VoG again

VoG was great and im quite sad how Bungie left it behind (honestly im sad for two other DLCs too) TTK design is not bad, bud i completely hate how generic it is. Raid weapons were kickass back in time, raid stuff from TTK is basicaly just fancy models with pasted perks. Im quite ineterested how "anti-taken" perks will be viable in next DLC (what propably delete taken invasion, like was deleted swords of crota or wolf before). It is just nonsence how shortsided bungie is Bungie sometimes. I hope there will be push for major boost of VoG/CE/PoE stuff or revamp of all three instalments. Right now im just sad because Vex is not viable anymore, Necrochasm as well and many other great pieces like my beloved Praedyths revenge for example. There was that many articles about pushing all Raids to year two with its stuff but Bungie still puting this under the carpet. It is just nonsensicaly sad, honestly. Sad and stupid.

The Vault of Glass raid is truly the best raid so far. Even though I received chatter white 3 times in the same raid.
-
Vog was best.
-
Vog can be fun if the brain dead monkeys don't come

7 RepliesAnd what's also good about VoG, it's forgiving. When you're in the middle of a fight and someone dies, it doesn't mean you have to restart it. With king's fall a lot goes wrong when even one person dies.
-
You pretty much hit the nail on the head. VoG was the best raid we've had so far, nothing else compares to the experience of it

I loved raiding in general because it had more to offer than just pointing and shooting things until they die. That's why the Division won't be good enough for me. Pointing and shooting to collect loot blows. I like to solve puzzles, strategize with teams, etc.
-
Just the continuous descent into the heart of the planet is really what I loved about VoG. I suppose you sort of hit on this with the art and aesthetics. But specifically the idea of just getting deeper and deeper in to Venus seemed awesome to me. Still does! Also, Fist of Havoc off the ledge down into the Gorgon Pit. SOOOOOOOO FUN!
-
Spawning in on patrol was cool. I remember when the wolves exploit was still doable. We used VoG to get 6 of us in together on patrol instead of 3. (Didn't need 6... Just more fun running with more clan members rather than break it up)
-
9 RepliesYep, still miss Vault of Glass :( I remember spending entire afternoons with my friends raiding and trying to get the Vex mythoclast... I also remeber the first time I completed it, I was at level 25 and I had just finished levelling up my sunsinger skill tree (it was even before the Dark Below DLC); my first VoG weapon was the sniper rifle, then in the same raid I got the infamous Vision of Confluence,my favourite legendary weapon ever!
-
Is it because you're a vex?
-
I liked how simple yet complex it was. XD that may sound weird but if you think about it it kinda makes sense. Also, everyone didnt have to know the mechanics to be able to complete it and it wasnt an insta whipe if someone dies.
-
Driving by the Walking Ruins and helping folks kill a couple of Vex as the spire builds. Seeing them disappear and wondering how they will do. I've missed that in the other raids- never see anyone heading into raids anymore.

3 RepliesEdited by LxGhostSniperxL: 3/11/2016 12:23:41 PMStill the only raid that was actually fun to play. Crota= glorified strike Skolas= I don't even wanna talk about it King's Fall= so daunting and mechanic intensive VoG was the perfect combination of just the right amount of content, simple mechanics, and overall fun. Plus, the loot was good and cool.
