Who doesn't love cats? Come on over here and brag about your little kitty. Accompanying pictures with said bragging is purrr-fictly fine.

On a serious note though, since my dog passed away, I've definitely picked up an affection for cats, even though they do nothing but ignore me, scratch me and try to get away when I picked them up with intent to force my love upon them.

I found him as a stray at the junior high school I teach and brought him home intending to nurse him back to health and find him a loving family. Nursed him back to health but our kids didn't want to see him go. So he ended up being a member of our family. Back in April, one of our children left our third story balcony slightly open one rainy night. We couldn't find him until I went outside to see if he somehow got down to the bottom floor. I then spotted him 3 apartment balconies over on the third floor. My wife was tying to coax him over while I watched from below. She had almost got him him when he slipped, fell three stories, and landed right on his face and chest. He broke two legs, ribs, injured his spleen, and torn open his chin. Bleeding heavily, I rushed him over to the nearest 24-hour vet which was easily an hour away. Being a Sunday night at 12 am, it took me only 40 minutes. I rushed him in and got him to the vet who kept him over night. I took time off the next day to go with my wife to the vet to see how he was doing. He was apparently in shock and wasn't responding but the vet thought he would pull through. A week later, the vet told us that he was convinced he would be ok with surgery to put pins in his two legs. The operation would cost us close to $3,500 plus $1,000 in hospital board and Pom which is quite expensive in Japan which tends to have low animal medical costs. He went though the surgery fine and came home a month later after the incident. The entire affair only cost us $1,100 compared to the previously estimated figures. It's been a full year and no problems. He has pet insurance now and is perfectly happy albeit a mischievous cat.
