The Hive are as Human as we are

So recently i was reading thought the book of sorrows (Great stuff btw) and i would like to share some opinions, this is gonna be a long winded text so if you dont like reading do yourself a favor and ignore this post. Its such an amazing story since the beggining how the proto-hive species were a kinda more broken or vulnerable than us human, their life expentancy was max 10 years and they lived in a planet where everything was trying to kill them akin to some insects in our yard. And yet they lived, they wondered and dreamed about their futuro and goals. when the last osmium king reached his 10 years he started becoming mad and his court started turning on him, leaded by Taox the main mother they exiled the 3 daugther of the current king. Xi ro, the youngest and braver of the 3, who wanted to become a knight, Sathona the one with cunning, and Aurash the older with the most curiosity and determination. Lots of things happens and they spend almost 5 years (IIRC) in exile when they realize the harsh reality of their mortality, living for vengeance to retake what was theirs. When they went to the core of their planet and found the Leviathan just to tell them that they should turn back and live as they has been living, strugling, fighting, clinging and dying. That moment is when its shown to us that the proto hive especialy Aurash has the will to fight against the nature and even the universe itself to continuing existing, thats something we as a specie has been doing since our dawn. They take the worns, bunch of things happens again (you should really read the book of sorrows) and Aurash now Oryx decided to became an agent of the deep to guarantee the survival of his species, his sisters which he dearly loved and made a system where they could feed the worms inside them, at one time he even felt he was missing something in his life and he made Crota, Ir Halak and Ir Anuk. At the end if we see what the traveller did to us and the worm god did to the hive, we the Guardians and humanity are just the other side of the same coin in a war we are waging for a power or powers beyond our comprenhension in the galaxy. For now we are in a winning streak against the ones that wants us dead but our ass had been handed to us in the past (The Colapse, The losing of the moon, etc), will we defy gods and even the universe itself to continue demanding our existence? we'll see. Bungie should and i mean NEED to put the grimoire ingame, just put some concept art slideshow and some voice acting (Oryx VA and other) to tell the story. No need to put tons of SFX or CGI keep it simple as an example this little indie game Darkest Dungeon does amazing story telling with just VA and stills. Hope you folks like it and be brave guardians

  • They could do it by having archive audio and video clips that ghost extracts from the dead ghosts you find. Kind of like the cassette tapes you gather up in Metal Gear Solid 5. Those tapes are a creative way to include lore in game for new players who have no idea on the history of BigBoss, Snake, etc and it works without breaking immersion.

    • " The first comes in a shadow.  A window becomes a door.  An ebb becomes a gulf.  The second comes in bones.  Tithes offering feasts, carrying laws.  A path torn, minds shattered.  The third does not come alone. It cannot. Our truths woven into their being, desires beyond our own.  The first needs the second to fail, the third needs the first to succeed. The second will never cease, yet the first always prevails. The third is born of all outcomes. Unless, all ends flow from the same pit." We are the first The hive are the second The vex are the third

While we do have a lot in common with the Hive, in terms of fighting for our own survival and being agents for powers beyond our comprehension, you'd be mistaken to say there are no bad guys in this story. Aurash and her sisters were deceived by the worm gods when they made their eternity pacts. The worm gods told them that if they indulged their natures for eternity, they would live for eternity. But if they stopped, the worms they would host would absolutely consume them completely. The sisters were told that they would be soldiers of the Deep, that would help usher the universe into its final shape by destroying all other species. Here's the problem with that, the sisters were tricked. Because what happens when all species are destroyed and the hive or taken are the final shape of the universe? There will be no way for them to feed their worms, and they will be consumed into oblivion. Who will remain after that? The Worms. The worms who made the pact with them. You fail to understand evil. So does everyone who thinks there are no bad guys in Destiny. Evil isn't about killing per se. Evil is a lot more basic than that. Evil is deception. Evil is every action that disregards the value of life and time of others to the extent that only its own matters. Evil is selfishness. Evil is the oppression and robbery of choice. And from these all evil actions stem. Things like murder, etc... Objectively and directly speaking, the bad guys are not the Hive. They are only relatively and subjectively the bad guys, because they pose threats to our existence. But the longer the Hive exist, the deeper they go into their Worm pacts, and the less they are Hive, and the more they are The Deep. This is because just like the Taken are bound to Oryx's will, Oryx and all the Hive are bound to the will of the Deep. They can't do what they want, they HAVE to do the will of the Deep or they die. If at any point they wanted to escape their nature, which Oryx tried in the past when dialoging with the Ammonites, only death awaits them. When we're talking about objective and direct evil, we're pointed to the Deep. The Deep which forces its hosts to do as it wills without choice. Which employs deception over an entire species to become its instrument, disregarding the value of their lives or time completely. The Deep which is utterly selfish in wanting to see itself become all that there is without care for the consequences. If you read grimoire "The Scream" you'll hear Oryx's tragic revelation that he and his sisters have been deceived. In various other entries you'll see he resents his decision to take the pact or tries to find some way out of it, such as in his hiring of the Warpriest. Also, the Traveler has not done to us what the Worms have done to the Hive. Prior to guardians, the Traveler traveled our solar system terraforming planets and making them inhabitable. When it came to us we flourished. This was also done with the Ammonites and the Eliksni (Fallen). In the opening cut scene of The Taken King, our ghost also makes sure to tell us that prior to us and the collapse, there had never been a ghost or a guardian. We are unique in that aspect. In the thousands and thousands of years the Traveler has traveled, we are the first beings ever revived to wield its Light and be its agents. The Ammonites were advanced but they were no guardians. They were just culturally rich and flourishing. But they did not wield the Traveler's Light. In its dying breath, the Traveler created ghosts in its last ditch effort in order that there may be guardians. THEN we enter the picture and become agents/channels of the Sky/Traveler. What is our purpose? To preserve life and existence, and yes, to destroy forces that wish to exert their will and destruction over independent life. What is the purpose of the Hive? To destroy life and existence. Destiny's theme is not that there are no moral absolutes. Rather that further below subjective evil and good, below the gray lines of relativism, there is that which constitutes objective evil and objective good. And that, in the face of objective evil, war is not evil, but an expression of Light, for the Defense of life and happiness. But if you mean the Hive experience emotions just as we do, etc... Then definitely. They are like us. Only conditioned to respond to emotion differently as a result of their commitments to the Deep.

            • You mean the lambent sickness can infect humans now, and they're sinking cities with a giant worm? Okay, I'll slap the gunsmith around until he remembers that he's Marcus Fenix. Then we'll go deal with it.

You've got it spot on, not to brag but I've known from the beginning there is no bad guy vs good guy. The word is "titanomachy" and it means the war for existence among the gods. In Greek mythology, hence why we are called by the Vex Overmind in one grim card "the titanomach world ender".... Wait with all these new lore revelations it finally makes sense. I get it. I -blam!-ing get it. The Vex are attacking us because they've seen we will defeat every other race :O :O :O This all makes sense! Why we are called warlocks Titans and hunters because we will obliterate Gods. Holy crap
