after playing through the halo series, there is one obvious discrepancy that comes to mind. why do the covenant speak english? in all ways it is a bad thing for the covenant. if their comms are hacked into humans would understand them, and humans would understand their battle plans in the battlefield. the covenant should have retained their normal langueage whule battling humans so they could: keep secrets form the humans. I realize that learnign english would give the covenant an advantage over the humans so they could understand human battle plans, and that the covenant needs a language to speak to the different races in the covenant, but english is a bad choice for a unifying language within the covenant.
thoughts?

excuses are made to explain why, but the real reason is explained by economics it would be more expensive to invent a credible language rather then just talk english and nobody care

I had a test in it for English too this week :/ [/quote]

Obviously so we can understand what they say. Nice question though..

Um, they don't speak English... After fighting the Covenant for over twenty years humans have become somewhat adept at translating the many unique dialects that the different alien species within the Covenant speak. Therefore, the Spartan MJOLNIR armor has advanced translation software built in allowing us to hear them in English. As for the cut-scenes? Well, that's just to make it easier to understand the story.

Everyone has a translator or something.

You want them to speak another language? [Edited on 12.06.2009 5:49 PM PST]

Oh, and it explains in the books that they actually have translators, at least that's what I think...The AI's seem smart enough in the Halo Universe to be able to translate.

i was gonna say "because you touch yourself at night" but nah i`ll just lurk some more until this is a good post

i would rather have them speak covenant. This would be an interesting thing to add to gameplay if you made a language for the covenant the the player could crack and get an advantage over the covenant if the player put the effort into it.
-
at the end of the game on legendary you can faintly hear jeff gordon saying "by the way stupid people who would like the covenant to be speaking gibberish, it isn't english they are speaking, but a brute dialect coincidently similar to modern day english."
-
Because English is the official language of all sci-fi aliens species.
-
Would you rather have them speak Spanish?
