What is the significance of "Jade Rabbit"?

Let me clear about this.. im not talking about the exotic. I own it alreay maxed at 320 but only like it on certain maps.. but that's an entirely different subject. im talking about the lore of jade rabbit and what it means to destiny... maybe what it will mean in the future or perhaps what it was supposed to mean and then later cut away (you will see what I mean in a second). and secondly... I apologize if this has been discussed before.. and my lack of capitalization.. and excessive ellipses... get over it.... but its been kinda buggin me... I should also note im familiar with the Chinese mythos of which I assume jade rabbit gets its inspiration.. anyways... if anyone remembers a time before destiny originally released... they will remember the epic commercials.. well.. one in particular shows you what turns out to be all 3 classes. but one of them (I think it was the warlock) was rocking a jade rabbit insignia. that was pretty much the end of that until the game actually released... then jade rabbit became an emblem that I think was probably every ones first emblem aside from the class ones or founders.... but then jade rabbit more or less disappeared again... until TTK... the jade rabbit became a gun and sparrow.... my point of all this being... jade rabbit has literally been around in destiny since even before it dropped and is still around slowly becoming more and more visible. my brain cant help but wonder about the significance of jade rabbit.. and I have it boiled down to one of three scenarios of which I have a hard time of pinpointing the most likely. 1. Jade rabbit was supposed to be something big in the original script and was later cut and later on given little snippets of what would have been a major plot line... at least a secondary plot line 2. Jade rabbit was originally planned to be a significant story line later on or will be restored to that level. 3. Bungie is just being a troll and using it as like a mini mascot or something knowing that it would irk the shit out nerds who will just sit and ponder. so... if anyone has some slightly deeper knowledge or if perhaps I missed something... yeah.. you know what to do.

  • Don't know if someone's already told you but it's an old story about a man,the moon,a god,and a princess. Something about the god sent 9 moons to destroy the planet but he sent a man to destroy them all and make the planet cold or something like that. He only destroyed 8 and then found out there was a potion of immortality and whatnot. The god banished him to the moon and he became the jade rabbit and lived with the princess. Thus why you find the jade rabbit emblem on the moon and warlocks wearing and using jade rabbit gear due to their love of tales and knowledge. Don't know if that's how it went but did go something like that.

The Jade Rabbit is an old folk tale circulating in Asian cultures about a rabbit that lives on the moon. Destiny took that idea and added in Lunar Bases the Chinese Lunar researchers worked in that have the "Jade Rabbit" as its name/symbol. You need to dig into the Lore about the Moon and the Jade Rabbit itself to understand a lot of it.
Also, it's kawaii as ****
• The original appearance of the Jade Rabbit emblem which is found in the Golden Chests on the moon, was more than likely done to reference the myth that was prominent throughout many cultures, and known as the Moon Rabbit.
