Through 2 raids and prison of elders, and also trials adept weapons, we could chase down elemental primaries of different varieties. Solar burn? I could choose between vision of confluence or abyss defiant, or vex even. Arc burn? We could take a pick from fang, oversoul edict, or fate bringer. Void? Word of crota, or atheon's epilogue. These just name a few, and don't account for the adept weapons from PoE or Trials.
Along comes the taken king, and our weapons don't come with us (we thought you learned your lesson with house of wolves...). We are told this is to encourage variety, because with elemental primaries, it would encourage using the same weapons. But as I've pointed out, there were multiple choices for each element to pick from already, and this would have been the chance to add even more. The raid weapons, strike specific weapons, even Court of Oryx could have the chance to drop them. Strike specific weapons could have a random element just like the adept weapons did. Imagine the variations we could have if this were the case. But, as Luke said, bungie didn't want to bring elemental primaries forward.
But wait, what about Zhalo Supercell? You gave us that one. That ONE. You speak of variety, and then you give us ONE. So now when arc burn rolls around on the nightfall, there is ONE weapon that fits. One does not equal variety. More equals variety. When we fix our plates at dinner, we generally have a main dish, and a few sides, right? We want a little variety in our food, so we prepare more than one thing. Instead of bringing our old gear along (especially the really unique PoE exotic weapons we just got a few months prior), and then adding to the mix to increase the variety, you actually took away their value and gave us one (repeat ONE) elemental primary.
I'm not one to call for people to be fired. I'm sure Luke has a family to take care of, or even just his own bills to pay. But that really came across as a bunch of crap. You want feedback? Here's my feedback. That decision was a bad decision, and the explanation was a bit insulting. My suggestion (and many others in the community have said this already) is to add an infuse node to the old weapons. You don't have to make it as easy as it was with etheric light. In fact, require etheric light to bring it to 170 as it does now, and then convert that node to infusion. This gives us a reason to play the older content even if you don't increase the light levels. We would want to go get that gear and etheric light to bring it up to year one max so we can start infusing. This would give some value to all the 265 drops we get even though we are 300+. This would give us the ability to use our old armor and class items. And this would add variety to our weapon choices, because we could choose from the existing year 2 weapons and our year 1 weapons, both elemental and non.
Cozmo (or Deej), I hope you read this. And I hope you relay the message. Please, when you learn from your mistakes as you did with house of wolves, don't repeat them.
Edit: As the conversation grows, and I have more ideas, I'll comment them, and then add that comment to the bottom in "spoilers". Keep it coming.

Also, bring back Thorn (and all other exotics). But don't stop there. Add more weapons with dots. Then maybe add weapons that have counters to dots. Perhaps something that eliminates dots if used to kill the Guardian who inflicted it. Or exotic armor pieces that reflect a percent of the dot back, so when you get in matches against several thorns or burning grenades, it might encourage the other team to change up. Get creative. Thorn, for all the hate towards it, was one of the more unique guns in the game. Lord of wolves and queen breakers bow too. Those were so different. Different is good. We like variety.

Also 2:

Also also, some of us broke down old weapons we loved prior to house of wolves. If and when you let us upgrade old gear, how about mixing in old weapons at the vendors. Bring shadow price back. The gunsmith rotates his weapons. Use that with the other vendors. Rotate the perks. And perhaps whatever gear is available at the vendor is what will drop in packages. This would give us things to spend our marks on, and add... Variety.
Now, consider this dead horse kicked. Now send a ghost to revive the horse and make use of this feedback.

Also 3:

Also, also, also... Through conversation I had this idea too. Strike specific gear earned in nightfalls have random elements.

3 RepliesIt's weird how we've had to delete all of our good weapons. Never had a game where you get less powerful as you progress.
