For some reason the Destiny community wants the sniper rifles to be the one and only. Snipers don't want anyone to challenge them.
In my opinion, shotguns were nerfed too much. For the most part it is a lose, lose situation for shotgun wielders. You have to be within melee range for them to work. If you're not within that range, you will die. The problem with shotguns is that a melee has more reach than a shotgun.
A self res Warlock can get an overshield from twice the distance of a shotgun. A hunter can also blink strike at twice the distance. Titans are screwed when it comes to melee. There's no denying that.
Destiny is the only game I've played where shotguns are treated like whiffle bats. They really don't do anything.
Removing special ammo from the game in 3v3 is a good idea, even though I hate how player go into trials with Icebreaker, which can 1headshot kill, but that does not address the horrible weapon balance that exists within this game.
Edit: key point I need to address. I like how there are those of you who counter my argument by talking about your year 1 matador and fellwinters, but I'm talking about year 2 content. I have a great matador and I had an exceptional Fellwinter that I deleted, but I can't use them in year two competitive play.
Why I post this? Because despite how many people will get rude, shotguns matter.
There are those of you who argue that it takes no skill to kill a person with a shotgun, but I would argue the opposite. If you get killed by someone who is on your radar, it is you who clearly doesn't have skill. If a shotgunner kills you it is because you're being reckless and not paying attention to your surroundings. You're engaging in close encounters because you're being overconfident and thinking you can melee your opponent to death. If the other person has a shotgun, you should be punished for being foolish enough to engage at that range.
Snipers, on the other hand, don't show up on your radar. Therefore, it takes no skill to kill with a sniper rifle at long or close range.

Bump. I miss using the low impact ones

Really shotguns are just way too inconsistent in crucible right now. Its not that they dont kill or kill too much, its that every match the shotgun performs radically different.
-
No, they are not under powered

328 RepliesThanks for the feedback. Personally as someone who primarily uses shotguns I think they are in a good place right now. Chaperone is one of my favorite guns in the game and still kills from a good distance. Everyone please weigh in on if you agree with OP on this or not. I will absolutely pass along feedback to buff shotguns if that is what the community is wanting.

They nerfed movement way too far for shotguns
-
I used to use the conspiracy theory because it was the highest light I had, but when I obtained the immobius I decided to use that. It felt absolutely brutal with how close I had to be to get the kill. I would have to aim more with a shotgun than a sniper rifle to get a kill because of how easily my opponent could walk out of my reticule. I find that the low ROF shotguns are fine but the high ROF should have a lesser drop off

8 Replies"The shotgun's range, damage, handling, reload speed, and even the player's movement speed have gotten their teeth ripped out. Now, even under ideal circumstances many of them are unable to kill. For a special weapon, the situation is unbalanced and in need of correction."

Buff please

4 RepliesEdited by Elite-Hunter_17: 2/25/2016 11:48:49 PMMost shotguns really are inconsistent outside of the invective, and no one can deny that. I feel like Bungie definitely broke most of the shotguns in the game, for the sake of trying to reduce the overall effectiveness of the year 1 low rate of fire/high impact shotguns like felwinter's lie. I never feel fully confident when I use a shotgun within its intended range, which is close range. Sometimes I secure the kill, sometimes I leave someone with half health, and sometimes I leave people with the tiniest sliver of health. When I don't feel like sniping I just switch to a sidearm now, because shotguns are thoroughly screwed. Truth be told, the only reason why people snipe so much in this current meta is mostly due to the fact that shotguns aren't a reliable option anymore. With snipers, shoot someone in the head and you know they'll definitely die more often than not.

1 ReplyWell when people were overusing shotguns we couldn't do anything about it and you shotgunners are having the same problem in year 2 now its our turn to have some fun btw i still hate people who camp all the match I am agressive and yes i use last word and 1000 yard since taken king but really i also use shotguns but they are at a real good place i just went 10 killstreak on trails with deidri retort really good shotgun
-
1 ReplyWell today was extremely strange in IB I was the only one using a shotgun in my previous matches. I agree they got destroyed in the latest update but still usable if you are a shotgun user.

snipestiny

Every gun except snipers are underpowered. 2.0 was an epic shit and every patch or update since then has just made skid marks. This game sucks now
-
Lol shotguns take just as much skill as snipers.
-
13 RepliesShotguns are perfectly fine as they are. Sincerely, All crybaby snipers
-
6 RepliesI think they are about right. They seem underpowered because snipers are so good. If you could just stagger snipers with primary fire you could still rush well, but as it stands snipers are just way too easy to use.
-
True they are to over powered at close range it's hard to win against
-
Disagree. Shotguns need to b left alone
-
6 RepliesTbh shotguns still seem a bit OP and the range on them is a tad ridiculous. Snipers do need a change though especially when it comes to revives in Trials where a headshot is a OHKO. Don't understand why Bungie hasn't fixed 1,000 yard stare either since the aim assist is unbalanced as well as a crutch for way too many people.
-
Yea man nerf em into the ground I like a challenge
-
1 Replywell then you simply are not using them right. as with all weapons, going for crits ( head shots ) will always benefit you. sorry there is no more felwinters lie but you still have conspiracy theory D. Shotguns are in a great place as far as the majority of the community is comcerned. it's a high risk high reward weapon. like the last word and colovances duty. if you miss shots then you will be punished but if you are true with your aim and skill then you will be rewarded. just practice more, the last thing we need is for blink shottys to reign supreme again. no one would have much fun after a while of that.
-
The only thing that really upsets me about the shotgun nerfs, was the 2 second frame delay. That's honestly not necessary.
-
23 RepliesShotguns works fine in pvp, but small dmg buff to PvE wouldnt hurt...
-
4 RepliesI get one shot with the party crasher +1 at least 5 times a game and it seems like the range is kinda ridiculous, I have almost never been left standing regardless of range. soooo, some shotguns are absurd and need balancing but honastly if you want to win use good gear, its more about the player
-
1 ReplyShotguns are fine, although some are still getting far too much range. They are still one shot kills.
