Witcher 3 Gwent Cards help

Literally every guide on the Internet tells me that specific merchants sell certain Gwent cards, but not a single one sold the cards they are supposed to sell or sold cards at all for me. What is this? Do you need to be a certain level or at some state of the game? I'm pretty much in the beginning and just went to get all the cards in Velen. Thank you in advance, any help is appreciated

  • I had an idea: Obviously my game is glitched and I don't think patches can cure it, but what if I patch my game and then start NG+? Do I keep my cards and can just pick up the ones in Velen?

  • I always thought merchants had random ones are you seeing any at all or just not ones the guide says? Also you need the patches as there were issues with collecting some of the cards pre patches.

      • Pretty much only innkeepers sell them. The icon on the map is the little mug looking thing.

        • I believe you need to beat each merchant in Gwent to win their card Honestly, I'm not too sure, I believe that's what a loading screen said, I don't play Gwent myself.

          • I forgot to add that I'm playing the very first version of the game without patches, as you can only get either the most recent patch or none at all on PS4, and I don't have enough storage space. Might this be the problem?

            • This will be a little bit of a spoiler so I'll hide it and you can decide if you want to read it or not. It has to do with the The Bloody Baron's Quest line.
This deals with more of the achievement. Make sure you beat the baron in gwent before you start searching for his wife. You will come to a choice that can impact you in not completing this achievement
• When the DLC came out, they may have changed what cards are sold where to keep it "fresh".

              • Don't think any merchant can sell to cards during the prologue. Just finish that act and you can always visit Belen anytime. Just remember to do some Gwent quest before you travel to the isle of mist.

              • you may have to progress a little more in the story and get the quest "collect them all"
