If everything lines up right then graphics can put it right over the edge. The Order 1886 being an example of what could have been a great game but turned into a short graphics show with the mightiest beards out there. Metal Gear V is probably the best example I could think of where game quality and graphics went hand in hand to build a top notch game. Though that's just my opinion.

Graphics can help but they're not always everything. There are games with gripping narratives or engaging story lines that succeed at creating something that feels real and didn't need graphics to convey it. The combination is wonderful to see implemented and is the mark of triple A titles. As another post has for examples implement poorly and you get something like the Order. Implement correctly and you get something like MGS 5.

Depends

It makes more realistic but that doesn't always equate to better

Not nesessarily. But they can.
-
Not really, DayZ is one of the most realistic games I've played and the graphics are trash. I think the only thing graphics affects for me is immersion
-
Of course it does
-
I mean have you looked at arma you can have everything set to low and still get that realistic feel from it so graphics don't always mean better it's more about how to player moves and acts and how the game mechanics play out
-
Realistic game would be about doing the dishes after you get home from work. How boring. ;)

1 ReplyEdited by IMAGE NOT FOUND: 2/16/2016 1:00:49 AMPhotorealistic graphics are dull. You want art design that looks fresh and exciting - something different that has some spark to it A more realistic visual approach really needs to be hyper-real, to make the game world appear more exciting, immersive and striking

1 ReplyRealistic graphics can make a game appear realistic, but in order to truly be more realistic it would need realistic mechanics, gameplay, sound, etc.
-
1 ReplyIt's definitely a contributing factor.

Do realistic graphics make a game more realistic? Hmm I wonder.......
-
Depends on the art style. Games like The Division and The Order 1886 look real but look at Halo. It's cartoonish art style doesn't look entirely real
-
2 RepliesDepends on the type of game.
-
I think it does help make a game feel more immersive. However, I hate when people base their opinion on a game based off of the graphics.
-
Partly, yeah.
-
No, it's the immersion, the story. Graphics just makes it easier to be immersed.
