We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.
Run-on sentence, no?
Why was James Madison chosen to write the United States Constitution if he's gonna make it look like ass with this huge run-on. I could've written that preamble better than him. I mean really. Just look at that sentence.
Like, one sentence is five lines long? You can't do that, that's first grader's stuff, dude. I would have written that preamble like a beast, holmes. I'll do it one day, I swear, I'll make millions...
"Doctor Worm, the best preamble writer ever!" the waves of fans will yell. I'll be so cool, dude. I'll have the ladies all over me. They'll be begging, "Please, Worm! Teach us how to write a preamble," then I'll be all like, "Maybe another day, we need to make love."
Just watch me...

It's a grammatically correct sentence. It begins with the subject (the people of the US), includes a list with correct use of parallelism, and then concludes the sentence with a dependant clause containing verb (ordain). Keep in mind that the English is different, as modern day English is much different from that of the time when the Constitution was written.

I once wrote a 734 word sentence that was grammaticly correct. I'll try to find a copy to post here.

Learn the difference between a run-on and a long sentence. A run-on sentence is one where there should be punctuation and there isn't like the one that I am typing right now would be considered a run-on sentence because there is more than one independent clause but I'm sure you realize that because I am still typing it whereas the preamble has adequate punctuation and only one independent clause.

It's just a long sentence. And I doubt you could of written it better.

The founders were crappy writers. They were too busy owning slaves and dumping tea.
